Eagle’s Nest

The Basics

Located on 50 rolling acres in Konawa, a small town about 70 miles southeast of Oklahoma City, the Eagle’s Nest is a sober living home for men seeking continued recovery support. Residents attend “Wellbriety” 12-step meetings with a goal to become productive members of society. House members return to the workforce and rebuild themselves from the ground up.

Accommodations and Amenities

Eagle’s Nest occupies a colonial style two-story home and can accommodate a total of 14 residents in four double- and two triple-occupancy bedrooms. All bedrooms are furnished with twin beds, a closet and a small dresser, with linens provided. Four bathrooms are shared among residents and all have dual sinks and a shower, with a bathtub available in one. Towels are provided but hand soap and cleaning supplies are a shared expense between residents.

The large kitchen on the first level of the house has two refrigerators, a microwave oven and a conventional oven, along with ample storage space in the pantry for food and cupboard space for other personal items. Cooking supplies and utensils are provided and shared between house members. The living room is spacious with comfortable couches, a fireplace and a TV with DVD player. The backyard features a swimming pool, a catfish pond and a barbecue for use when weather permits. The grounds have walking trails and views for residents to enjoy.

Rules and Regulations

Eagle’s Nest’s rules are enforced through a system of fines. Remaining sober is a top priority for all house members. If an individual arrives home under the influence of any substances, engages in disruptive behavior or steal anything, house members vote on whether he can continue staying at the house. In the case of a repeat offender, house managers decide whether he is expelled. To ensure the safety of all residents, random drug tests and breathalyzer exams are given regularly and randomly. All visitors to the house are also subject to being tested.

All residents are expected to keep their personal and common spaces tidy and to complete all assigned chores. A new list of chores is posted every day and is expected to be completed by 9:30 pm. Every two weeks, house members are also expected to contribute $5 to a cleaning supply fund. Residents cook the house dinner every night on a rotating basis and the men are expected to provide and prepare their own breakfasts and lunches.

All house members must respect the 10 pm curfew on weeknights and midnight on weekends. No calls are allowed after 10:30 pm and the house phone is expected to be kept in the living room and not to be taken into bedrooms. On Saturdays, residents are permitted visitors from 12 pm to 7 pm anywhere on the house grounds except bedrooms. Every Sunday, residents are required to attend an 8 pm house meeting.

All house members are also expected to attend three White Bison meetings—a 12-step group that incorporates American Indian spiritual ideas—every week. Residents must complete the 12 steps during their stay, with rewards given for crucial steps. An overnight pass is granted for steps one and two being completed with a sponsor and can be used twice per month. For a two-night pass, steps three and four must be completed and can be used once per week. Passes must be requested two days in advance in writing.

All rent must be paid on time and a $25 fee is applied if rent is two days behind; it increases to $50 after four days. Failure to pay rent can result in eviction. House members are expected to have full-time employment and a resident without a job must be either enrolled in school or actively seeking employment.
