The Basics
With locations in Aurora and Naperville, Illinois, Tools for Life offers a range of services for substance abuse-related issues; including DUI classes, outpatient treatment and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP). Early intervention and counseling services are also available.
Treatment and Staff
The basic outpatient program (Level I) is comprised of group, individual and family therapy. Groups meet once a week for three hours and typically have between five and 14 clients. Individual therapy is scheduled on an as-needed basis and lasts 30 to 60 minutes. These sessions focus on issues specific to the client, help develop and progress check treatment plans and begin preparation for aftercare. Family counseling is also scheduled as necessary and lasts an hour.
The IOP (Level II) clients choose one “home” or main group to attend every week in addition to two other flexible sessions that can be attended at either location. Each group session is three hours long. AA/NA meetings not required by Tools for Life but may be incorporated into a client’s program if court-ordered. For clients struggling with depression and anxiety concurrent with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis support is available. Gender-specific groups are also offered and all services are available in Spanish.
Staff is comprised of two CADCs who both have years of experience in the field.
Extras
Tools for Life provides drug and alcohol evaluations and assessments that are ASAM-certified. Each typically takes one to two hours.
A full DUI program is available in minimal, moderate, significant and high risk levels. The minimal, moderate and significant programs include of 10 hours of risk education; with the moderate level adding an additional 12 hours of early intervention counseling and the significant level adding 20 hours of Level I outpatient treatment and aftercare. The high risk program requires 75 hours of Level I or II outpatient treatment and aftercare as well. Court-ordered DUI evaluations are also available.
Clients getting ready to leave treatment can take advantage of the program’s work readiness counseling and life coaching services.
