Watertown South DakotaThe Basics

Located in Watertown, South Dakota, Mark Bontreger is a Doctorate of Clinical Psychology who has been practicing for over three decades. His private and professional behavioral health facility, Mark Bontreger, Inc., provides clients with counseling services that include substance abuse and support for co-occurring disorders. Substance abuse services include outpatient treatment, DUI classes, aftercare and specialized counseling.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment through Mark Bontreger, Inc. is an individualized experience tailored to each client’s need. All clients must be assessed by one of the three staff members for a bio-psycho-social assessment. Clients who do not require detox or more intensive treatment are admitted and further assessed to develop a treatment plan with their therapist that is adjusted according to progress. Clients who have court obligations remain connected with their therapist and in contact with the courts to ensure they are in compliance with requirements. Dual diagnosis support is available through MBI in the form of specialized counseling services and medication management.

Substance abuse treatment through MBI is facilitated through individual therapy sessions and group therapy. Clients typically attend therapeutic activities once per week and may receive individual sessions bi-monthly or once per month depending on their unique treatment plan. The alcohol and drug program uses CBT techniques in addition to trauma-informed care applications.

Attendance of 12-step meetings is required. Clients attend groups and check in with their case managers once per week. In order to complete the program, clients must attend every session and complete drug tests and breathalyzer exams.

The facility has a small staff of three including the founder of the facility. Credentials include an LCDC, an LPC and a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QHMP). All staff members are also qualified to work with PTSD, phobic disorders and can also offer couples counseling and family therapy.

Extras

Once clients have achieved their recovery treatment goals, they may enroll in the aftercare program that meets once a week through a group format. Clients may attend treatment as long as needed, typically for one to three months. Sessions focus on relapse prevention and making sure clients have a strong foundation to continue their recovery. Clients may also randomly check in individually with a counselor.

The DUI program provides psycho-education classes for individuals who have received a conviction from the court. Treatment length depends on whether this is the client’s first, second or third conviction.

In Summary

Mark Bontreger, Inc. provides private and intimate mental health services including outpatient substance abuse treatment. Clients work in small groups and individual therapy sessions to develop more of an awareness to their alcoholism and addiction. DUI clients attend required groups and education classes in order to regain driving privileges. Overall, the facility is a safe space for clients to begin recovery and attend aftercare to establish long term sobriety.
