Las Vegas NevadaThe Basics

Founded in 2014 in Las Vegas, Nevada, by CEO and executive director Bonnie Barnett, Fresh Hope Recovery is an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility that provides medication-assisted treatment along with individual therapy. Fresh Hope also offers the Sinclair Program, which utilizes the Sinclair Method. Barnett lost her husband to alcoholism and her mission is to help clients realize that addiction is a disease, and that scientifically based methods are beneficial in helping suffering alcoholics and addicts.

Treatment and Staff

New clients undergo complete assessments and establish individualized treatment plans with counselors. Those opting for the Start Fresh Pellet Program undergo a medical exam, to ensure eligibility. The Start Fresh Pellet program is 12 months in length, and includes a pellet that is surgically installed in the abdomen below the beltline. The pellet releases naltrexone, and works towards reducing or eliminating the client’s cravings.

The program includes evidence-based individual therapy. During the first three months, therapy is three times weekly, followed by bi-weekly sessions for the next four months. After that time, clients are weaned off Naltrexone therapy, unless they have relapsed. Individual therapy is between 50 and 60 minutes in length, and is conducted in person, over the phone or by Skype. The 12-month cost for the Start Fresh pellet program is $15,500.

Other medication-assisted treatment includes monthly Vivitrol (brand name for naltrexone) injections, and oral naltrexone 50 mg tablets. Both programs include individual therapy and range between nine and 12 months in length. The cost for the 12-month Vivitrol program is $7,500.

The Sinclair program is six months long and caters to alcoholics. Prior to intake, clients undergo a physical exam, lab testing and complete assessment. Treatment includes medication and 18 sessions of individual therapy. The program focuses on the reduction of alcohol consumption, as opposed to more traditional approaches which purport complete abstinence. Typically, the medication assists in reducing cravings, and sometimes clients attain complete abstinence. The program also includes substance addiction education and clients are given workbooks, where they write down the exact amount of their daily alcohol consumption. The Sinclair Program cost is $4,400.

At Fresh Hope Recovery, clients are encouraged to attend recovery support meetings, along with treatment. While clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings, or whatever recovery support group works for them, the rehab aligns much of its philosophy with SMART Recovery ideology. A weekly online SMART Recovery meeting is provided. The meeting is for clients only, and is facilitated from a conference room inside the facility.

Besides Barnett, staff includes a chief operating officer, program director, SMART Recovery program facilitator, a LADC and a mental health counselor.

Extras

There are no back-to-back sessions here. All appointments are scheduled to protect clients’ confidentiality.

The Fresh Hope Recovery Medical Traveler program caters to professionals who are flying into Las Vegas for treatment. The program includes airport pickup, facilitation of hotel accommodations and scheduling of medical services.

In Summary

Fresh Hope Recovery has a different take on addiction than the traditional 12-step approach. Their belief is that people are intelligent enough to make sound choices regarding their addiction, and that they can empower themselves enough to change. This is definitely a different premise than AA ideology, which purports that alcoholics and addicts are powerless over their chemical addictions and that they need a Higher Power to help them find relief. Fresh Hope Recovery sounds like a great option for those who are looking for alternatives to AA. And while the Sinclair Program aims for moderation, clients reportedly lose their cravings from the medication, and end up not drinking at all.
