The Basics

Established in 1992, the Lenexa, Kansas based Clinical Associates, P.A. offers substance abuse treatment on an outpatient basis, as well as a host of other behavioral health services. The facility has locations in Kansas City and Leavenworth and specializes in providing court-mandated evaluations while also providing a standard outpatient program.

Treatment and Staff

Clinical Associates, P.A. works frequently with Johnson County courts to provide treatment evaluations to inform a client’s sentencing mandate. This process usually takes two hours and is performed by a staff LADC. Because of a potential conflict of interest, clients must then have the permission of their parole officer or the court to continue with treatment. Referrals are available to other facilities for those in need of detox services and a methadone program.

Treatment is a standard outpatient program with group therapy once a week and individual therapy on an as-needed basis, typically once a week. These sessions utilize a mix of therapeutic methods, but CBT is the most prominent model. Twelve-step recovery is not overly emphasized in treatment. A significant feature of the Clinical Associates P.A. program is its range of specialized services and therapy including anger and domestic violence classes, a family program that allows family members to join for individual therapy, a special women’s mental health group, groups for Spanish speakers and a substance abuse program for clergy members.

Given that the facility is essentially an umbrella organization for a variety of practitioners, clients can expect a diverse staff, including psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, licensed doctoral psychologists, and licensed clinical MFTs, substance abuse counselors and LCSWs. There is a full dual diagnosis program, including psychiatrist visits and medication management as well as special group sessions that address co-occurring disorders.

The length of the program at Clinical Associates, P.A. varies greatly depending on a client’s court requirement or personal progress. While aftercare is not offered at this time in group form, clients can extend individual therapy for for any length of time, serving as a continuing care program.

Extras

One of the more expansive programs offered is a sexual offender rehabilitation program facilitated through the Kansas Department of Corrections. This service is offered not only at the Lenexa and Kansas City branches but at parole offices at 13 other locations throughout the state.

Clinical Associates, P.A. is a basic outpatient program with weekly group and individual therapy in a facility that has a staff well-qualified to provide dual diagnosis care. While treatment is basic and limited to a group of private practitioners, clients benefit from creating individualized treatment programs affording ample one-on-one attention to help forge independence and lasting recovery.
