Treatment and Staff
Before clients are enrolled in an outpatient program, they are screened using a bio-psycho-social assessment which also determines whether treatment is required for co-occurring disorders. For those requiring dual diagnosis support or medication management the appropriate course of treatment is determined
CCHPS takes a disease-model approach to treatment, incorporating 12-step principles and the Minnesota Model. Because each client has unique needs and court obligations, meetings are scheduled with their case manager to develop a treatment plan.
Clients typically attend treatment three times per week for three hours each day. Active participation is required as well as random drug testing and attendance of meetings. During the course of treatment, clients attend group therapy and psycho-education groups where they learn relapse prevention skills, facts about addiction and new coping skills for their integration back to the community. During groups, individual and family sessions, therapists use CBT techniques, Play Therapy, Psychodrama and personality testing to instill change.
Since most clients are referred through the criminal justice system, emphasis is placed on learning new social skills and vocational skills. Individual therapy is also offered once per week to ensure clients are progressing in recovery. Clients requiring medication meet regularly with a Psychiatrist to ensure treatment is effective.
A specific co-occurring disorders program is also available for the treatment of substance abuse and mental health issues which incorporates trauma-informed care. Since mental illness is often caused my childhood trauma, therapists are experienced to work with sexual and physical abuse, grief, anger issues and anxiety or mood disorders. The program follows the same approach as the substance abuse program, but with a typical duration of six to nine months.
The clinical staff at CCHPS includes diverse backgrounds and certifications including Psychologists, LISWs, LPCs, Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), CASACs and Art Therapists.
