The Basics
Located in Austin, Texas, St. Maureen’s Recovery offers male-only sober living for men who have completed primary care at a drug rehab or criminal justice clients who have been clean and sober for at least 30 days. Their mission is to provide a serene and safe atmosphere, so that residents can learn to flourish in recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
At full capacity, St. Maureen’s Recovery accommodates 24 men divided equally between two homes, which are both located near public transportation. Each house has six bedrooms and four bathrooms. Clients are paired in comfortably furnished rooms with twin beds and dressers. Each bedroom includes a cable TV.
Each house includes a fully equipped kitchen, where the men prepare their own meals. Coffee, creamer, kitchen utilities, plates, and silverware are provided. Other amenities include pillows, sheets, Wi-Fi, laundry detergent, bleach, all utilities and laundry facilities. House managers live on the premises, and oversee operations.
Rules and Regulations
At St. Maureen’s Recovery, clients must have been clean and sober for a minimum of 30 days or have successfully finished a 30-day residential treatment program at a treatment facility. Those who have not gone to a drug rehab must show proof of abstinence by passing a urinalysis.
Unemployed residents must be out of the house searching for employment by 10 am Mondays through Fridays. They must find a job within two weeks of arrival, and be employed for a minimum of 28 hours per week. During the first two weeks the curfew is 11 pm seven days a week, and the curfew remains effective until clients pay their deposits in full. While a 30-day cost is $550, the security deposit is $225.
Other requirements include attending regular 12-step meetings, being at the bi-weekly house meetings and performing household chores. During house meetings, residents discuss house concerns, as well as share about their own personal recovery and other issues. Random drug and alcohol testing is conducted, and those who relapse are immediately evicted from the premises. Additionally, a zero tolerance policy applies to aggression or threats of violence.
Extras
Other services besides housing include referrals for off-site individual therapy, for clients who need more help one on one.
At night, residents often drive to meetings together. This ensures that they are not isolating and that they are attending regular meetings, as well as working on being part of a fellowship.
In Summary
St. Maureen’s Recovery really helps residents get to meetings, by carpooling and also encourages clients to work on inner healing, while they are rebuilding their lives. The city of Austin is becoming known as a booming recovery community, so for men, St. Maureen’s Recovery might be an excellent option.
