baltimore marylandThe Basics

Founded in 1999 in Woodlawn, Maryland, Hope Health Systems, Inc. offers substance abuse care, mental health counseling and a variety of community support systems on an outpatient basis. This CARF-accredited organization has grown to include a second location in Greenspring, also located in Baltimore County.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at Hope Health Systems begins with an initial evaluation in which clients develop an individualized plan to suit their needs. Because the facilities do not offer detox services, those in need must complete this phase before treatment. Both of Hope Health Systems’ locations offer matching programs of care.

The most comprehensive program for substance abuse treatment is the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) which features three group therapy sessions and one individual therapy session a week, led by a LADC. These group sessions use a mix of therapeutic models, primarily focusing on CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) techniques. Clients are strongly encouraged to attend 12-step meetings in the local community though this is not a required part of Hope Health System’s program.

Because extensive mental health services are available at the facility, clients can expect dual-diagnosis support in addition to treatment for addiction. There are five psychiatrists on staff at the facility and medication management is provided when necessary. Clients seeking an even more intensive care can register for the Health Homes program, which requires that each participant be enrolled in the facility’s psychiatric rehab program in addition to the substance abuse program. This option also pairs clients with a care provider who addresses medical issues.

Family participation is also stressed at Hope Health Systems, namely through a family program wherein family members can attend special group and individual sessions. Clients can also expect gender-specific care and case management services. Regular and random drug screens are also a fixture of the program.

While most clients who attend Hope Health Systems are self-referred, those in need of DUI classes or probation-ordered counseling can also have their needs met with programs tailored to their specific mandates.

Extras

While those in IOP typically receive treatment for between three and six months, participants have a lot of freedom in tailoring programs to their individual needs. After IOP, clients usually step down to a standard outpatient program which meets six hours a week. Aftercare is provided afterward as clients continue to attend indefinite weekly group sessions at no additional cost.

In addition to its IOP and mental health programs, Hope Health Systems also works to provide care for at-risk adolescents, working in conjunction with the Juvenile Offenders In Need of Supervision (JOINS) program which seeks to divert threshold offenders from entering the juvenile justice system by instead assigning them community-oriented projects. The facility also provides case assessments and progress reports for adolescents in the program while working extensively with the Department of Juvenile Services to offer treatment to adolescents currently in the justice system.

In Summary

With a long history of community-oriented care, Hope Health Systems, Inc. offers a range of substance abuse services and dual-diagnosis options with psychiatric visits and medical care. The facility is 12-step oriented and emphasizes family involvement in the recovery process, featuring plenty of individualization and free aftercare. In all, Hope Health Systems is worth considering for those in Baltimore.
