The Basics
Oasis Women’s Shelter is a residential facility for women who have been victims of domestic abuse, who are homeless or who are chemically dependent. Out of concern for the privacy and safety of the women residing at Oasis homes, the locations are not disclosed—however short and long-term housing is provided throughout Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, Union, Ohio, McLean and Webster Counties of Kentucky. While enrolled in treatment, clients progress through varying stages of treatment that uses evidence-based methods and traditional therapeutic methods.
Accommodations and Food
The majority of Oasis’ clientele are women-at-risk and as such, all housing details are kept private and confidential. For details on accommodations, please contact the facility directly.
Treatment and Staff
Clients enrolled in the residential substance abuse treatment program progress through various phases of treatment. The initial level of care is the Emergency Phase, in which clients either participate in detox (if needed) or begin an intensive level of treatment. This phase combines individual and group therapy, addiction education and basic life skill training. As the clients become accustomed to life and treatment, they move into the Supportive Phase of treatment, which requires fewer therapy sessions, but more supportive services including intermediate life skills training, relapse prevention, vocational training and securing more permanent housing. The last level of treatment is the Transitional Phase and incorporates aftercare, training opportunities, and integration of academic, vocational and employment goals as well as securing permanent housing.
Once clients complete treatment and move on from this primary phase of recovery, they are encouraged to return once a week for group sessions and check-ups. Treatment utilizes CBT methodology and the 12 steps are not integrated into the program.
The staff at OWS consists of LSWs, LCSWs, CADCs and LADCs.
Extras
As mentioned, Oasis services have a broad reach and are not limited to substance abuse treatment. Clients seeking shelter for homelessness and women who have been victims of domestic violence are given access to services such as crisis intervention, legal and medical advocacy, basic life skills, education, assessments, intervention services, housing and employment advocacy, aftercare counseling and outreach and prevention programs.
In Summary
The substance abuse treatment program at Oasis is ideal for women seeking not only treatment but also shelter and a community of support and care. Clients progress through treatment with varying levels of intensity and services until they have the skills, sobriety and support to live independently with a healthy start and community.
