The Basics
With several locations throughout eastern Idaho including Idaho Falls, Salmon and Challis, Human Dynamics and Diagnostics offers a variety of outpatient services to adults, teens and children in the local communities. Using a range of evidence-based therapies, this substance abuse and mental health treatment facility offers psychiatric care, an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and regular outpatient care. It also uses individualized treatment plans to help clients from all walks of life.
Treatment and Staff
For adults suffering from co-occurring disorders, this organization offers several outpatient options, including IOP, standard outpatient and individual counseling. Clients can choose a plan that best suits their needs. Rooted in evidence-based techniques such as CBT, DBT, EMDR and Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT), these facilities focus more on therapy then the 12 steps. While inpatient detox is not available, medically assisted withdrawal from opiates is offered in the form of Suboxone.
IOP for adults occurs three times a week for three hours at a time and includes a mixture of group and individual therapy, although the focus is on group discussions. Topics may include positive thinking, gender-specific issues, relapse prevention, Stages of Change and DUI education. The length of time spent in the program depends on each individual’s needs.
Once clients have completed IOP, they can step down into outpatient. In this tier, treatment can be anywhere from two to eight hours a week (though the structure of each session is similar to IOP). As clients progress, they can reduce their number of sessions. Again, the length of time spent in treatment depends on the individual. For those in need of help with psychiatric issues, a psychiatrist is available for assessments, diagnoses and pharmacological services.
Clients of all ages can also come to the facilities for individual counseling. These one-hour sessions are conducted by a social worker and allow clients to work on their issues in a private setting.
The staff includes a psychiatrist and several LCSWs. Group sizes typically run between 10 to 20 clients at a time. For those suffering from trauma issues, an EMDR specialist is available for sessions.
Extras
Human Dynamics also offers community-based rehabilitation services for adults, adolescents and children. The goal of these services is to help individuals acquire developmentally appropriate skills they can use at work, school, home and within the community.
A case management program is available for adults with mental illness. Developmental services for children ages three to 17 are also available, as is a similar program for adults.
In Summary
Human Dynamics and Diagnostics offers an evidence-based approach to substance abuse recovery. Rather then relying heavily on the 12 steps, it immerses clients who attend its outpatient programs in a variety of therapeutic methods. Through group work, reflection and honest participation, clients can find their way toward long-term sobriety.
