The Basics
With two locations in Michigan, Partners in Change is a counseling services provider with offices in both Midland and Mt. Pleasant. The facility was co-founded by a husband and wife duo, Dr. Ann Date and Dr. Tom Olson. For over 15 years, PIC has provided individualized treatment on an outpatient basis. Offering holistic treatment services, PIC offers substance abuse treatment as well as specialty groups for women, animal-assisted therapy and meditation and mindfulness classes.
Treatment and Staff
Partners in Change offers a dynamic recovery experience for clients seeking mental health services. In addition to substance abuse treatment, clients may seek therapy for depression, anxiety and more. All clients must initially come in for a bio-psycho-social assessment to determine the level care required. An individualized treatment plan is developed with the client’s primary therapist which is revisited every 30 days to ensure the client is on track with their unique recovery goals. There is no minimum or maximum treatment length, but clients are encouraged to attend treatment activities for a minimum of 30 days.
All therapy activities are overseen by a staff of Master’s- and Doctoral-level practitioners with a range of credentials including psychologists, LPCs and LMSWs. Clinicians utilize a wide variety of therapeutic techniques that include evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), CBT and DBT. The facility also uses Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) that helps clients develop responsibility, trust and relationship building and also supports local animal rescue organizations. The Mindfulness of Mid-Michigan program uses meditation techniques and yoga to help clients manage their emotions and stress without evasive practices or medication.
Chemical dependency treatment incorporates individual therapy for adult and adolescent clients. Group therapy is offered as well but exclusively through referral by the Michigan Department of Corrections. Clients who attend for substance abuse are highly encouraged to also attend 12-step fellowship groups so they develop fellowship in the sober community. Clients who require dual diagnosis support may find the right combination of treatment, but referrals are provided if the client is in need of medication.
Extras
While there is not a specific aftercare or alumni group available, clients may participate in treatment for as long as desired. Yoga and meditation are offered through the Mid-Michigan Mindfulness group and Animal Assisted Therapy groups through the Pawsitive Helpers non-profit organization.
Additionally, the Beyond Beautiful group is a special group for women struggling with disordered eating and self-esteem issues.
In Summary
Partners in Change provides clients with a unique treatment experience for chemical dependency and other mental health concerns. In addition to individual, group, family and couples therapy, clients can take advantage of specialty groups for disordered eating, animal assisted therapy groups and inmate intervention services. All therapeutic activities are overseen by clinicians who are highly trained and qualified. While there is a flat hourly rate for services, PIC does accept insurance and takes each client on a case-by-case basis in terms of payment options.
