St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea: OARC

The Basics

St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea is a high-quality health care center located just outside of Ann Arbor in Chelsea, Michigan. Its unique substance abuse treatment center for older clients, The Older Adult Recovery Center (OARC), was created to address substance abuse issues in clients 40 years and older. Aware of the reality that addiction can occur at any point in life, treatment at OARC also addresses possible age-related triggers, such as retirement, loss of a loved one, declining health and depression. OARC facilitates an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and is conveniently located in the Clocktower Commons Building in downtown Chelsea, less than a mile from the hospital campus.

Treatment and Staff

IOP begins with an assessment to determine the client’s specific needs. If a client need detox, then he or she will be referred to an inpatient facility with detox capabilities. OARC combines individual therapy, group therapy and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Treatment is CBT oriented and 12-step based. On average, a client in IOP treatment will attend one individual therapy session a week for one hour, as well as four group therapy sessions for two hours each. OARC also offers dual diagnosis support.

Due to its association with a comprehensive medical facility, OARC has several doctors on-site including a psychologist and three staff members who hold the credentials of Masters in Social Work, LCDC and LADC.

Extras

OARC also offers educational programs and resources for families of clients. The aim is helping families understand how aging and events associated with aging can put older adults at risk for developing problems with alcohol and other drugs.

St. Joseph’s Mercy Chelsea’s Older Adult Recovery Center is a place where clients over 40 years of age can receive excellent intensive outpatient treatment, along with specialized therapy and treatment of the specific issues affecting their age demographic. OARC accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross and most other major private insurance. Clients are also able to self pay. Men and women who seek refuge from substance abuse here can recover their independence and dignity with the help of qualified staff and the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea extended family.
