The Basics
New Era Rehabilitation Center Inc (NERC), founded in 2002 by Drs. Ebenezer and Christina Kolade, treats men and women in recovery from substance abuse at two outpatient facilities in Bridgeport and New Haven, Connecticut. NERC’s specialty is methadone maintenance. Both clinics offer Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and regular outpatient treatment services.
Treatment and Staff
Clients undergo an initial substance abuse evaluation and assessment for treatment options. As part of the evaluation, clients are subject to a urine screening. Once they have identified a client’s needs, the staff recommend either IOP or outpatient treatment.
The IOP program lasts five weeks and clients participate in individual, group and family counseling for three hours a day, three days a week. Once clients complete the IOP, the staff assess them for a second time to determine their progress. If there are clinical reasons to do so, clients are recommended for an additional two to three weeks of treatment.
Clients attending outpatient treatment are generally referred from the court system and other institutions. The duration of outpatient varies between two and six months depending on the client.
New Era Rehabilitation’s program does not incorporate the 12 steps but participating in a recovery program outside of outpatient is by no means discouraged.
The duration of the methadone maintenance program, again, depends on client need. The initial cost of receiving methadone treatment is $525, followed by $110 per maintenance visit.
The staff is led by the Kolades, who specialize in addiction treatment. Dr. Ebenezer Kolade is an internist with over 31 years of experience, while Dr. Christina Kolade is a family practitioner with over 25 years of experience.
Extras
Polish- and Spanish-speaking services are available at NERC. Clients receive substance abuse education and updates on NERC facilities by following their blog. New Era Rehabilitation will be opening a third outpatient facility in the near future.
In Summary
New Era Rehabilitation Center has a client retention rate of 93.5 percent, according to its website. The small practice with two doctors specializing in substance abuse disorders provides clients with dedicated staff and comprehensive treatment. Though NERC primarily focuses on outpatient treatment through methadone maintenance, staff also provide referral services to additional outpatient counseling.
