The Basics
One of the latest additions to the Cabin Addiction Services Group, The Cabin Sydney is a premier Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) facility located in Sydney, Australia. The staff and founders of The Cabin developed its unique system at their first inpatient treatment facility—The Cabin Chiang Mai—in Thailand. They have since expanded their efforts to support those suffering from addiction by opening outpatient facilities in China, the Netherlands, Thailand and Australia. Clients are treated using The Cabin’s “Recovery Zones,” a holistic and individualized multi-phase program designed to treat chemical, alcohol and process addictions of all levels of severity.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to admission, all potential clients undergo a screening assessment to ensure The Cabin is the right treatment program for them. Once enrolled in the IOP, clients meet with a staff psychologist to review their history and any current medications and a course of treatment is determined.
The Cabin is divided into two coed IOP treatment track options— “Recovery Zones Foundations” and “Recovery Zones Advanced.” Each track is six weeks in length.
The “Recovery Zones” treatment method combines CBT, the 12 steps and mindful meditation. Clients address primary substance abuse issues and are introduced to the three recovery zones. The Active Zone is abstinence-based and reflects the 12-step idea that destructive ideas, behaviors and people should be avoided. Staff may use this zone to introduce medication-assisted treatment as needed. The Danger Zone uses theories from CBT to encourage individuals to identify negative thinking. Clients work on changing negative self-talk, identifying triggers and working through emotional states. Finally, the Recovery Zone combines the 12 steps, CBT and mindful meditation to help clients work through difficult mental states. Individuals are taught relaxation techniques and mental awareness exercises.
During this six-week phase of treatment, individuals receive a total of 54 hours of group therapy and peer-based group work, typically meeting three times per week. Groups may be divided by gender as appropriate. In addition, clients meet one-on-one with a CADC once per week for individual therapy. The Cabin uses CBT and the 12 steps during both individual and group therapy with an emphasis on addiction education, identifying triggers and developing skills for relapse prevention. Once a client has completed the foundation phase of treatment, they have the option to move on to the advanced treatment track for an additional six weeks.
In the “Recovery Zones Advanced” program, clients participate in two group and one individual session per week and a total of two family therapy sessions. This phase addresses exit strategies, relapse prevention techniques, overall health and creating the ideal sober and healthy environment after the completion of treatment. The advanced track also connects clients with the alumni peer-support network in their area.
Extras
Clients needing inpatient treatment may consider traveling to The Cabin’s residential facility in northern Thailand. The Cabin Chiang Mai is a luxury rehab that incorporates alternative treatment methods including massage, Qi-Gong, yoga and Southeast Asian meditation. This facility also has an Arabic program serving clients from countries like the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar.
The Cabin uses mindful meditation at all locations for treating depression, addiction, PTSD and anxiety disorders.
In Summary
As part of a global network of treatment facilities, The Cabin Sydney is an extension of proven outpatient programs. Potential clients can expect a holistic treatment experience, using a unique recovery model that incorporates CBT, the 12 steps and mindful meditation. The Cabin is ideal for individuals seeking a comprehensive IOP with flexible evening hours.
