The Basics

Since 1973, Comtrea, Inc. of Festus, Missouri has provided comprehensive behavioral health and substance abuse treatment programs for adults and adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17. This CARF-accredited non-profit provides a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), outpatient services and co-occurring treatment though evidence based therapy. Both group and individual therapy sessions are available.

Treatment and Staff

After the client completes the initial assessment at the facility, they are assigned a counselor and enrolled in the appropriate program. There are three different treatment tracks available, all individualized to fit each client’s specific needs. PHP runs five days a week from 9 am to 2:30 pm, IOP meets three times a week for up to 10 hours and basic outpatient typically meets once a week for up to three hours. Depending on the client, these programs can also be used as step down treatment. Because treatment is geared towards each individual, none of the programs have a fixed time frame.

The programs consist mainly of education-based group therapy. Although treatment is not based on the 12 steps, the facility does encourage clients to seek out and attend community meetings as an additional form of support. The groups are psycho-educational and cover relapse prevention and coping skills as well as holistic approaches such as art and play therapy. Other modalities include CBT and DBT. Clients also have the option to schedule individual therapy sessions once a week. The programs also offer medication management for clients with dual diagnosis and case management services.

The staff consists of Master’s-level therapists including LCSWs, LPCs, psychiatrists, psychologists, LADCs and a nursing staff.

Extras

Comtrea also offers family programs where clients can attend therapy sessions with loved ones. There are court-ordered and DWI programs available as well as regular drug testing at the facility. The facility also hosts graduation ceremonies for those who complete a substance abuse program.
