The Basics
Founded in 2002 in West Palm Beach, Florida, by Chris Occhipinti, Christopher House of Hope provides sober living for men and women who have successfully completed primary care at a drug rehab, as well as structured housing for criminal justice and financially challenged clients. Occhipinti opened Christopher House of Hope shortly after losing his son, Christopher John in a drunk driving accident in 2002. His mission is helping newly clean and sober clients become productive and accountable, to spare other families the pain of such tragic accidents.
Accommodations and Amenities
Christopher House of Hope accommodates 60 clients in a yellow and white, one-story structure that resembles a motel. The facility includes a common area furnished with couches, a large flat screen TV, a fireplace, a desk, lamp and chair and bookshelves crammed with books. Between two and three clients share gender-specific furnished studios. Amenities include Wi-Fi, cable TV, on-site laundry facilities, central air conditioning and heat.
Residents are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation, which is conducted in a common kitchen. The facility is in close proximity to public transportation. Smoking is permitted in outside designated areas.
Rules and Regulations
At Christopher House of Hope, clients undergo an intensive assessment upon application and are accepted on a case-by-case basis. Residents typically have undergone treatment at a drug rehab, but the facility also caters to financially challenged criminal justice individuals seeking alcohol-free and drug-free housing. A 90-day minimum length of stay is mandatory.
Requirements include gaining work within two weeks of admission, not engaging in romantic or sexual relationships with other clients, maintaining a clean and sober lifestyle, and performing daily household chores. On Saturdays, clients must thoroughly scour their apartments. Employment must be conducive to maintaining a clean and sober lifestyle. Jobs including bartending or driving a cab are forbidden.
On weekdays, unemployed clients must attend job preparation classes at 8 am and then leave the facility between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm. During those hours, they must look for work. The residents are required to participate in regular 12-step meetings in the community and attend the weekly Monday night 8 pm on-site meeting where inspirational videos are shown. Video topics include the intake process at Christopher House of Hope, character development and respect for others.
The curfew is 11 pm seven days a week. When entering or departing the facility, individuals must sign in or sign out at the front desk. Christopher House of Hope practices a zero tolerance policy. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Those who have relapsed are immediately evicted from the premises. Also, clients who lose their jobs must leave the facility.

Christopher House of Hope provides a DUI Diversion program, at an additional cost.
