The Basics

Lewis and Clark Behavioral Health Services, Inc. is a substance abuse and mental health treatment facility that provides outpatient treatment, services for children and mental and behavioral health programs. From three locations, L&C provides a network of care throughout South Dakota in Vermillion, Yankton and Lake Andes. The alcohol and drug treatment program is exclusively outpatient and highly individualized with special attention given to clients with co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

L&C’s main location in Yankton offers substance abuse outpatient treatment as well as various other outpatient services. The program starts with an assessment to determine which form of therapy will be most beneficial, the frequency of those therapies and whether treatment for co-occurring disorders is necessary. There is no set structure to the outpatient program and treatment is entirely dependent on the needs and progress of the client. Treatment ends when the client and counselor determine that a stable level of recovery is reached.

The services offered at L&C include individual and group therapy, family therapy, medication management, relapse prevention, prevention and educational seminars, vocational services and dual-diagnosis support. All therapies implemented are CBT-based. The 12 steps are not integrated into the program.

The staff at L&C consists of LSWs, CADCs, LPCs, RNs, psychologists and LCDCs.

Extras

In addition to personalized substance abuse treatment, L&C also offers an assisted living program called Cedar Village for those with severe and persistent mental illnesses who need constant and professional care. Additionally, the CARE Club is a program for individuals with mental disabilities that provides assistance, support, interaction and education on a daily basis.
