The Basics
Blue Valley Behavioral Health was founded in 1968 and incorporated in 1970 as a non-profit agency by local community members hoping to provide accessible and affordable substance abuse and mental health care. With 13 branches spanning across 16 counties in Nebraska, clients are provided with a rich network of resources and professionals. BVBH’s substance abuse treatment program offers general outpatient services as well as an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and an aftercare program. Treatment employs traditional therapy utilizing evidence based methods.
Treatment and Staff
Before clients enter into a treatment program they must first be evaluated, which typically takes one to two hours. After a full assessment of the client’s history and current health status, one of the counselors on staff places them either in basic outpatient program or the IOP. As clients progress through treatment, they develop individual goals which they work towards accomplishing side by side with their counselor.
The outpatient program is designed to accommodate both adult and adolescent clients. Treatment consists of one or two 50-minute sessions per week for six to 12 weeks. Clients attend a combination of individual and group counseling. As the program progresses, the sessions become less frequent.
The IOP (which is only offered to adults) meets for group therapy three times a week for a total of ten hours per week over the course of six weeks. Individual sessions may also be included in the treatment program, but are not required.
All therapies implemented at BVBH utilize CBT methodology. The 12 steps are not a part of the program at BVBH, but clients are not dissuaded from attending meetings off-site.
The staff at BVBH consists of consists of LCSWs, LADCs and an MD.
Extras
BVBH’s aftercare group is for those who have recently completed the IOP or a residential program at another facility and wish to continue counseling to support and maintain sobriety. The program meets in groups once a week.
BVBH also provides a variety of other mental health services including outpatient counseling for mental health, medication management, an adult day treatment program and family counseling. Additionally, an educational outreach prevention program that works with children Kindergarten through eighth grade and their families providing intervention and counseling services as needed.
In Summary
BVBH’s outpatient programs focus on individual goal-setting and group-based therapy. With both basic outpatient and IOP tracks, the evidence based practices implemented at BVBH ensure that clients are given the best possible opportunity for recovery short of residential treatment.
