The Basics
Located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Recovery Unplugged provides treatment options for adults struggling with substance abuse and addiction. With residential treatment, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and sober housing facilities, Recovery Unplugged incorporates music therapy as an essential part of all its treatment plans. With multiple outpatient locations across the country, Recovery Unplugged also serves residents in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Massachusetts and Ohio.
Accommodations and Food
Located just one block from the Atlantic Ocean, clients reside in a peaceful and luxurious residence. The one-story mid century style facility is situated in a residential neighborhood and has a pleasant curb-appeal with brick walkways and landscaped grounds. The home accommodates only 32 at a time, ensuring personalized care and attention.
Rooms are semi-private with shared bathrooms and all necessary storage and bedding items are provided. Bedrooms have modern furnishings including queen-sized beds, mirrors and tall bedside lamps. The interiors are painted in soft pastels. Clients can enjoy their down time in the living area which comes equipped with large flat screen TVs.
An on-staff chef prepares most meals, all served communally in the dining room. Food is prepared to meet nutritional needs and dietary requirements. Occasionally, meals are catered by restaurants, or eaten off-site on some special occasions. The facility also boasts a swimming pool and plenty of outdoor seating on a sunny patio or under a covered porch.
Treatment and Staff
Transportation to the facility can be arranged from most parts of the country. Clients are also chauffeured to and from treatment each day, as all therapy occurs off-site. Treatment plans are individualized and the program is often recommended for clients who are prone to relapse, resistant to treatment or lack support in their daily lives. Detox services are not provided, though referrals and arrangements can be made whenever necessary. Once detox has been completed, clients can safely enter the residential program.
The Recovery Unplugged program lasts a minimum of 30 days and uses therapeutic modalities including daily group therapy, individual therapy, psychoeducation groups, addiction education, coping skills and relapse prevention. Additionally, clients are required to attend 12-step meetings and complete assignments as given by a sponsor. Those with co-occurring disorders are provided support as well as medication management. Family therapy is arranged on an individual basis, though loved ones are always encouraged to participate.
Those who complete the residential program often transition into IOP before moving on to independent living. The IOP consists of group therapy three times a week, as well as individual counseling independently scheduled. A less intensive basic outpatient program meets once a week for group therapy, and clients similarly use this option to remain connected to a sober community after treatment.
Staff consists of a psychiatrist, licensed nurse practitioners, Master’s-level therapists and case managers. The facility director of creative recovery plans and implements music therapy, along with a team of Master’s-level music therapists.
Extras
Yoga, meditation and mindfulness training, as well as outings to the beach, are all a part of the daily program.
The treatment method that makes Recovery Unplugged unique is its extensive use of music therapy, though the program is equally suited to experienced musicians and newcomers alike. Treatment incorporates playing, experiencing and recording music for all clients. Well-known musicians visit the facility periodically and perform for clients for inspiration. Opportunities to play and record with professional equipment are provided, as are libraries of music which are available for reference and recreation.
In Summary
Recovery Unplugged provides a strong continuum of care in a luxurious, beach-side setting with the added feature of a strong music therapy program. With a range of modalities that help target and treat substance abuse and addiction, Recovery Unplugged offers an overall very rich program. Those who are reticent to develop their treatment foundation upon alternative therapies may seek other programs strictly dedicated to traditional methods, but clients seeking an outside-the-box approach to long-term sobriety may find Recovery Unplugged’s unique approach to treatment inspirational.
