The Basics
Dover Behavioral Health System offers detox and outpatient services for those suffering from substance abuse and mental health issues. These highly structured programs are offered in both Kent and Sussex County, Delaware. Treatment here incorporates the 12 steps, and also uses an individualized approach to recovery to help those at all different levels of substance abuse.
Treatment and Staff
Both inpatient detox and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are available through Dover Behavioral Health. Before being admitted, each client must go through an initial intake process. During this stage, referrals for outside residential programs can also be made upon request.
The inpatient detox process takes anywhere from three to five days. During this time, clients receive medical supervision around the clock. Everyone in detox also has access to on-site AA/NA meetings as well as individual and group therapy. Once clients are stabilized, they are encouraged to continue treatment through IOP.
IOP offers a high level of support with meetings five times a week, for four hours at a time. There is a morning option, from 9 am to 1 pm and an evening option from 5 to 9 pm. Using an individualized approach to recovery, the program includes individual therapy at least once a week and a variety of groups. Topics may include relapse prevention, coping skills, early recovery skills, anger management and and introduction to the 12-steps. This program is able to provide support for co-occurring disorders as well as cross addictions. Upon entering the program, each client meets with the nurse practitioner who can provide medication management.
While clients are highly encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings, these are not a requirement. Prior to completing treatment, each individual receives a personalized discharge and aftercare plan. Each plan is customized to address the physical, mental and social needs of each individual.
The staff consists of LADCs, psychiatrists, nurses and social workers. Group sizes range from two to 12 at a time.
Extras
An inpatient program as well as a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) are available for those with severe mental health issues. There’s also a military program that offers individualized treatment to all branches of the military for substance abuse and mental health issues.
In Summary
Overall, Dover Behavioral Health System provides detox and intensive outpatient treatment. All treatment offered is individualized, relying on the 12 steps and traditional therapy to help clients recover. With access to medication management and dual diagnosis support, those suffering from ailments such as depression and anxiety can also find support. Overall, this is a great option for those who need a lot of support in an outpatient setting.
