Center for Problem Resolution

The Basics

Located in Elkhart County, Indiana, the Center for Problem Resolution has provided outpatient substance abuse since 1987. Additional programming was added in 1991 to treat victims of domestic violence and intervention services for batterers. Three levels of addiction treatment intensity are offered at CPR, as well as educational programs for individuals who are court-ordered for treatment. Spanish-speaking programs are available with bilingual clinical staff members. CPR also offers scholarships for clients who have difficulties paying for treatment.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to enrollment, all clients must schedule an appointment with an intake coordinator for an assessment. Evaluations may also be independently scheduled by court-mandated clients for employment or legal obligations. The primary assessment places clients in one of three programs with varying intensity. The first track—the Alcohol and Drug Education program—is offered at either 10 or 20 hour intervals. The 10 hour option may be completed in one day, the 20 hour program may be completed in two days. Both options focus on psychoeducation for clients who are not dependent on drugs and alcohol. Individuals with DUI/DWI convictions may enroll in the education program to fulfill court requirements.

The second program is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) available for clients that demonstrate chemical dependency. Treatment duration is eight weeks meeting three times per week. Each session is two hours in length and can be scheduled in the mornings or evenings at both locations. All treatment utilizes evidence based practices that include CBT and DBT techniques. Clients attend group therapy, psychoeducational videos and lectures and family therapy sessions. Attendance of 12-step meetings is required and clients may choose the fellowship that beset suits their needs—AA/NA or another support group.

The third track is the Modified Outpatient Program (MOP) which meets one to two times a week. MOP is ideal for clients who do not require acute treatment or who are concurrently enrolled in other programs, as the scheduling is flexible.

Clients enrolled in both programs attend group and individual therapy sessions, as well as family therapy. All treatment staff are at minimum CADCs with additional certifications. All programs have a staff-to-client ratio of one-to-10. Many therapists are bilingual to accommodate clients enrolled in the Spanish-speaking outpatient program. All treatment objectives remain the same between programs; creating a safe environment for clients to begin their recovery.

Extras

After completing one of the three treatment tracks (or a program at another accredited facility), CPR offers an aftercare program. Once per week, clients meet for group therapy. Individuals who require more care are enrolled in a Relapse Prevention Program that meets once a week for 21 weeks. Sessions focus on relapse prevention techniques and getting clients back on track with their recovery.

CPR also offers a dual-track program for individuals requiring both an IOP and assistance recovering from domestic abuse. Clients are enrolled in both the Batterers Intervention Program (BIP) and the IOP for 40 weeks, meeting initially three times a week, then over time reducing attendance to twice a week.

In Summary

The Center for Problem Resolution offers outpatient treatment that is flexible and accessible for clients with financial difficulties. The IOP and MOP track options are designed for clients who require flexibility when facing substance abuse issues as well as support for the family unit. Aftercare and relapse prevention care are also available to ensure individuals stay connected to their recovery and continue growing following completion of the program.
