The Basics
Since 1973, the Center for Prevention and Counseling has provided mental health care for individuals in the Town of Newton, New Jersey. CPC is a non-profit agency that works with adults and adolescents providing outpatient substance abuse treatment with seven different program variations allowing clients flexibility and a program tailored to their needs. With Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) for both adults and adolescents, all treatment at this Sussex County treatment facility is evidence based and individualized.
Treatment and Staff
All clients must call CPC to arrange an appointment for assessment. An admission coordinator meets with the client and performs an evaluation to determine the ideal program for each individual’s needs. Once admitted, clients meet with a case manager and an individualized treatment plan is developed. The facility does not offer detox but is able to accommodate individuals in need of dual-diagnosis support.
CPC has IOPs tailored for both adults and adolescents. The adult program is designed for individuals 18 and above. Clients attend treatment for 12 to 16 weeks, meeting three times per week for a total of nine hours of treatment. All sessions are conducted by clinical staff using Motivational Interviewing (MI), Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), CBT and 12-step principles. Clients attend group therapy sessions to develop a peer support group during their recovery process. The IOP track meets on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday evenings from 6 – 9 pm.
The adolescent IOP track is designed for clients between the ages of 13 and 17. Like the adult IOP, young people attend 12 to 16 weeks of treatment activities for nine hours each week. Family therapy is incorporated to help heal the family system. Each client works intensively on their pro-social coping skills and participate in psychoeducation classes to become knowledgeable on the effects of chemical dependency.
Individual therapy is scheduled as-needed. Additionally, all clients must attend 12-step support groups, which are hosted on-site. CPC offers AA/NA, Alanon, Naranon and many other support meetings every day of the week.
Clinical staff include LADCs, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPC) and Master’s-level therapists who specialize in treatment of substance abuse in adults and adolescents. CPC also offers specialized support groups for Anger Management, Trauma Support and Family Support.
Extras
CPC also offers prevention and early intervention as well as basic outpatient one-on-one counseling sessions as a stand-alone recovery path for clients who do not require a full IOP track. Many state-funded grants and payment options are available for clients who are unable to pay for treatment.
A continuing care group is available for clients in need of aftercare services which meets once per week and focuses on relapse prevention techniques and stress management. Separate age-specific groups are available for adults and adolescents.
In Summary
The Center for prevention and Counseling offers a wide range of treatment options for clients. With both basic outpatient counseling and IOP tracks for adolescents and adults, family support as well as anger management, trauma support and dual-diagnosis support systems, treatment is tailored for each individual’s recovery needs.
The facility also offers an array of on-site 12-step support groups, helping to create a recovery community to contribute to long-lasting wellness. With funding through the state and government grants available for clients who have financial hardship, no one in need of care is turned away.
