The Basics
A Columbus, Georgia institution since 1950, St. Francis Hospital is a non-profit, 376-bed community medical facility with more than 300 physicians and a full range of medical and emergency room services. The Bradley Center of St. Francis Hospital is a special wing of the facility located a short drive away, which offers substance abuse and mental health services, including a medical detox with inpatient services and a continuing Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP).
Accommodations and Food
The Bradley Center facility is divided into four distinct units; one for adults which holds up to 20 clients, one for children and adolescents ages six to 17 which holds 18, one for seniors which holds 10 and a crisis unit which holds 30. The accommodations for inpatient at the Bradley Center are typical hospital rooms, with two residents to a room and a shared bathroom.
Each unit has its own dining area where clients can enjoy three meals a day and snacks prepared by an on-staff chef. While there are common areas and social periods scheduled into each day, the inpatient phase of the Bradley Center substance abuse program is typically centered around a client’s medical detox and only lasts as long as this process, typically five to seven days.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment program at the Bradley Center is divided into two distinct phases, namely the aforementioned inpatient detox and a following PHP, which begins after this initial week of inpatient care. During the inpatient phase, clients begin many activities that continue into PHP. This includes group and individual therapy sessions led by LADCs, as well as meetings with medical staff which includes a physician, psychiatrist and nursing team. After inpatient, clients meet with their physician to create a continued plan for recovery.
PHP is a five day a week program where clients attend CBT oriented group and individual sessions that run from 8 am to 4 pm each day. There is also a half-day program available from 10 am to 3 pm, depending on individual needs. Clients are introduced to 12-step concepts and attend regular meetings both on-site and in the local community. While meetings are held in separate group rooms at the facility, there is still overlap between inpatient and outpatient clients. A family program is also available. Each client’s length of care at the Bradley Center varies, and is determined by their counselor based on individual progress.
Dual diagnosis care is a major component of treatment at the Bradley Center. Group and individual sessions are led by licensed dual diagnosis counselors, and clients can expect regular visits with a staff psychiatrists who provide medication management.
Extras
As mentioned, The Bradley Center’s services extend to children and adolescents ages five to 17 who are experiencing depression, anxiety, anger management or other behavioral health issues. Services include group, individual and family sessions as well as psychoeducational groups and tutoring programs. The Bradley Center also has services for seniors who have a mental health diagnosis such as anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts on top of a medical condition. Group and individual counseling sessions are available to meet the specific needs of seniors.
In Summary
With an inpatient detox and full PHP with dual diagnosis care, The Bradley Center of St. Francis Hospital offers an impressive program to combat substance abuse. Clients can expect therapy sessions, medication management and regular access to a medical team, as well as an introduction to 12-step recovery. Though it may be somewhat more expensive that rehabs with comparable services, the Bradley Center offers a modern recovery experience with plenty of medical support.
