The Basics
Associated Behavioral Healthcare, Inc. (ABH) provides a variety of substance abuse and mental health treatment services from four different facilities in the state of Washington. The locations are in Bellevue, West Seattle, North Seattle and Ken. All offer basic outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) to adults ages 18 and over. Treatment consists of individual and group therapy with medication management for those dealing with co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at ABH begins with an evaluation to assess each individual’s needs. Those seeking treatment for addiction must undergo a drug and alcohol screening and a comprehensive assessment. Clients in need of mental health services are required to take a separate evaluation performed by a psychologist. After the evaluation is complete, clients schedule an intake appointment with a clinician who works with each person to create an individualized treatment plan. Those in need of dual-diagnosis support are offered psychiatric medication management from an on-site psychiatrist. Detox services are not available directly at ABH, though referrals can be made to nearby Fairfax Hospital for those who need it.
ABH’s IOP meets for group and individual sessions on a weekly basis. During the first two months, clients are required to meet for group therapy three times a week for three hours at a time. Individual therapy sessions are held three times a week for an hour at a time. In the next eight months, clients meet once a week for group sessions and a total of five times for individual sessions.
Those in IOP attend three-hour discussion groups that focus on relapse prevention, the addiction as disease model, early intervention and how to adopt the necessary skills for recovery. The Bellevue facility offers IOP groups on Monday through Thursday from 6 to 9 pm and on Friday from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. Weekend groups are held on Saturday at 10 am and Sunday at 9 am. The North Seattle office has meetings Monday through Friday from 6 to 9 pm and on Saturday at 10:30 am. The West Seattle office has groups on Tuesday and Wednesday at 6 pm and Saturday at 10:30 am. Finally, the Kent facility can accommodate individuals on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at 6 pm and on Saturday from 1 to 4 pm.
Other services include basic outpatient substance abuse groups that meet on a weekly basis for an hour at a time. These groups are available to those in need of less intensive treatment. Attendance of group sessions vary on a case-by-case basis. Groups are held from 7 to 8 pm Monday through Thursday and Saturday and Sunday from 9 am to 10 pm. Treatment lasts for a minimum of six weeks and up to two years depending on each client’s needs. Chemical dependency professionals use the 12-step program in combination with evidence-based modalities like CBT. Individual sessions are also scheduled as needed and typically serve to monitor each client’s progress.
Mental health services are offered separately from treatment for chemical dependency, and consist of individual therapy scheduled as needed. Family members are also invited to take part in individual therapy sessions upon request. A wide range of care options are available to those struggling with ADD/ADHD, bipolar disorder, trauma, depression and anxiety. All team members at ABCH use evidence-based modalities like CBT and DBT during therapy.
Staff members consist of Master’s-level counselors, chemical dependency professionals and psychiatrists.
Extras
For DUI/DWI offenders there is an Alcohol and Drug Information School (ADIS) class that includes a DUI victim panel available every other Saturday from 8 am to 5 pm. There is also a 12-month domestic violence program that requires three group therapy sessions a week during the first two months. The following four months consist of only one group session a week, after which clients clients taper to one session a month for the remainder of treatment. There are also two anger management courses in eight and a 16-hour options. The eight-hour course is broken into two meetings held on consecutive Fridays once a month from 4 to 8 pm, while the 16-hour course is the same with four additional group sessions, an initial assessment and an exit evaluation.
