San Diego CaliforniaThe Basics

Located in San Diego, California, San Diego Student Recovery (SDSR) provides specialized sober living services for college students who are trying to stay clean and sober. SDSR is a holistic program which was founded by Concetta Mantiñan, who successfully treated clients at several other rehab facilities in Southern California.

Accommodation and Amenities

The luxury apartment facilities at SDSR are called La Jolla Crossroads and designed for any undergraduate or graduate student between the ages of 18 and 35 who is seeking a supportive community that fosters accountability and recovery. In the structured environment, clients are encouraged to have fun, hosting and participating in numerous recreational activities alongside therapeutic ones. Balance is facilitated through academic assistance, physical activity and service work. Six clients are housed, two to a room, in each three-bedroom apartment. The apartments include bedding, dishes, silverware, Wi-Fi, cleaning supplies and TV.

The apartments offer a range of amenities that are available for group and individual use. These include a technology and business center and conference rooms for study, a BBQ, picnic area, clubhouse with a full kitchen, bistro and market for meals and an indoor movie theater for recreation. Physical activity is an important component to treatment at SDSR and numerous pools, spas, a fitness area, game area, tanning salon, and a racquetball court are provided for use.

Rules and Regulations

New clients attend an intake assessment performed by a licensed psychologist and psychiatrist. An individualized treatment plan is created, which offers a combination of individual therapy, group therapy, 12-step program attendance and other complimentary therapies. They are asked to make a 90-day commitment to the sober living, but may stay longer. Clients in need of detox or dual diagnosis support are provided references to outside facilities as these services are not provided.

Residents are required to keep their rooms tidy, contribute to chores and participate in random drug testing and urinalysis. Maintaining sobriety is also required. Typically, clients attend two group sessions each evening, from 5 to around 7:30 pm, up to five weekdays a week. Individual therapy using DBT and CBT methods is available outside of these hours. To assist with academic performance, SDSR provides tutoring resources as well as academic advisement and sessions in time management and scheduling.

Clients enjoy weekly massages, guided meditation sessions, acupuncture and, occasionally, neurofeedback and sessions with a local chiropractor. These holistic additions round out a comprehensive palette of treatment options that contribute to each client’s individualized treatment plan. Life skills classes, which are held once a week, focus on budget management, resume building, career building, networking and nutrition.

Extras

Fitness classes consisting of yoga, Pilates, basketball and volleyball are available on a rotating roster. Additional conveniences are a security patrol and shuttle service to ensure client safety in transport to and from the center.

Clients may participate in organized group activities such as beach days, concerts, professional sports games, trips to amusement parks and movies for additional fees. These activities are arranged with the intention of providing fun activities for clients of around the same age. The supportive peer-group environment is essential to the successful treatment suggested by SDSR.

In Summary

San Diego Student Recovery Services provides high-quality care for students who may struggle with substance abuse in a different college setting. The supportive, structured environment focuses on peer-support as a motivating force, encouraging students to find positivity in their new, sober lives. The rigorous treatment schedule and beautiful facility with exciting amenities provide an environment where college students can thrive in recovery.
