Project Eden Review

Located 40 miles east of San Francisco in the suburb of Pleasanton, California, Project Eden specializes in the care of adults struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. Founded in 1993, Project Eden is one of eight Horizon Services treatment locations. The facility provides a comprehensive Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and outpatient services rooted in a strengths-based treatment model. It’s worth mentioning, while it is a popular resource for addiction treatment, AA is not an integral element of the curriculum here.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, clients go through an intake interview with a counselor that includes a personal and family health history as well as an overview of substance use. From there, the intake team determines the most effective individualized care plan tailored to address the unique needs and goals of the person. When a client requires greater care or a detox program, Project Eden will make the appropriate referral to a partnering treatment facility.

The facility provides comprehensive outpatient programming ideal for clients transitioning out of a residential facility back into regular life in addition to individuals that require a consistent therapeutic structure but cannot make the time commitment to an inpatient program. The flexible scheduling enables clients to receive therapy without having to take time off of work or family obligations. The length of treatment completely depends on the needs of the person.

Project Eden seeks to heal as well as prepare and empower clients to successfully transition into regular life. As such, the facility provides an array of therapeutic methods including traditional and evidence-based models as well as psychoeducation. Clients engage in individual and group sessions with therapists rooted in strengths-based methods. Counselors are trained in CBT and EMDR. Psychoeducation courses focuses on relevant topics like addiction effects, the mind-body connection, relapse prevention and coping strategies. The facility also provides regular random drug tests. In addition, Project Eden offers tailored programming for LGBTQ clients.

Project Eden employs counselors, therapists and case managers. The facility does not offer a medical detox or medication management.

Extras

Project Eden works closely with clients on probation as well as a specialized curriculum for schools.
