Denver Springs Outpatient Review

The adult outpatient program through Denver Springs is located in Parker, Colorado. It takes place at the Changes facility and offers a variety of services including a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for adults. Both the PHP and IOP treat mental health and addiction issues through a number of evidence-based protocols, education, and holistic therapies.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to treatment every client goes through a psychiatric and medical assessment. In some cases, the staff places clients in the inpatient track, while others move straight into outpatient. It is also common for inpatient clientele to step down to outpatient care.

The PHP is a full day program separated into three specific groups: mental health, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Group therapy occurs every day, with specialized focus on each client’s specific needs.

In addition to group therapy, clients in the PHP can also expect medication management, psychoeducation, counseling, and several therapeutic activities. This includes art therapy, music therapy and yoga.

The IOP is divided into two tracks for mental health care and addiction. This level of care provides treatment for at least nine hours per week. IOP clients attend group sessions that cover a variety of topics.  Common topics for group therapy include recovery planning, relapse prevention, coping skills, identifying triggers, dealing with emotions, improving communication, setting healthy boundaries, working on self esteem and self image, and goal setting. They also receive medication management, skills training, and weekly individual therapy.

Therapeutic approaches in both the PHP and IOP include CBT, mindfulness, fitness and wellness, nutritional education, trauma-informed care, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution Focused Therapy.

While the co-occurring treatment program is not necessarily based on the 12 steps, client who fit into this category are still encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings.

Changes’ outpatient treatment team members are Master’s-level therapists, LPCs, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, dietitians, and medical doctors.

Extras

Family therapy and education is included in the PHP and IOP.

There is an established aftercare program that meets once a week in the evenings.

In Summary

The outpatient programs at Denver Springs and Changes are highly structured and offer the same elements of care that the inpatient track provides. Clients learn a number of valuable skills that help with navigating daily life. Programming is comprehensive and incorporates holistic approaches with traditional methods to provide clients a well balanced treatment plan.
