Casa De Vida House of Hope Review
In operation since 1982, Reno, Nevada’s Casa De Vida is a faith based, not for profit program for young women who are pregnant and in need of assistance. House of Hope is the transitional program established in 2006 that offers Casa De Vida clients who have given birth a place to live, as well as childcare, while they get back on their feet. Its mission is to help the new mothers and their children through a series of community based services and classes. House of Hope is a very supportive and structured living environment for those who have struggled with issues such as domestic violence, poverty and addiction.
Accommodations and Amenities
House of Hope is a newly remodeled bungalow in a quiet residential neighborhood. Mothers and their babies have private bedrooms with cribs provided. The house is very modern and fully furnished. The living room has two loveseats and recliner, flatscreen TV and coffee table. The residents eat in fully stocked kitchen with new appliances, and the bedrooms have full beds, dressers and bookshelves.
Rules and Regulations
All residents here must be at least 18 years old to participate. This program is offered to clients who are current residents of Casa De Vida. Two weeks after giving birth, they are able to move into the transitional home.
Before being admitted to the program all clients have to get a TB test, drug test, and have a background screening. Throughout the program clients are required to work at least 30 hours a week, and attend the mandatory classes held at the Casa De Vida residence. These classes include parenting, cooking, budgeting and nutrition.
Additional services include individual and group therapy, employment services, and one on one mentoring services. There is childcare available, as well as help finding permanent housing. In addition there are services for clients who wish to continue their education.
The House of Hope has a house manager who oversees the daily operations of the facility. Other staff includes LCSW and volunteer teachers.
