Renascent Review
Renascent is a non-profit residential treatment organization in Toronto, Ontario. It aims to assist men and women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders, and co-occurring mental health issues. Founded in 1970, Renascent provides comprehensive gender-specific treatment that integrates evidence-based therapies with psychoeducation and relapse prevention. The organization offers gender-specific residential care at three locations as well as a facility for comprehensive family programming. The 12-step recovery model is an integral component of the curriculum.
Accommodations and Food
Renascent offers two residential facilities for men and one location for women. All three facilities are situated in beautiful brick historic buildings equipped with spacious floor plans, comfortable furnishings and a colorful decor. The facilities boast nice patio decks, industrial-size kitchens, upscale dining rooms, laundry rooms and large common rooms with fireplaces and flatscreen TVs.
There are accommodations for between 20 and 40 residents at a time. While most residents stay in a shared bedroom, there are private rooms available for an extra cost. Bedrooms are equipped with full-sized beds, nice linens, plenty of natural light, a dresser and a nearby bathroom.
Residents enjoy a delicious and healthy menu. There are plenty of options for individuals with dietary preferences, restrictions and allergies.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, residents undergo a comprehensive intake assessment that includes a physical and mental exam as well as a complete account of substance use. Based off these results the Renascent team determines the best possible personalized care plan tailored to meet the unique needs, goals and circumstances of the individual. The facility does not offer an on-site detox but can make referrals to local partners. Renascent only accepts clients with between three and eight days of sobriety depending on the substance. The facility offers 28, 35 and 42 day residential programs in addition to 20 weeks of aftercare.
Renascent seeks to heal the “whole person” rather than simply treating symptoms. As such, the facility employs a range of therapeutic methods in order to uncover and rehabilitate the root cause of conditions. The integrative treatment model includes evidence-based therapies, holistic practices, nutrition therapy, 12-step and psychoeducation. Clients engage in individual and group sessions rooted in CBT. Therapists also utilize traditional methods and solution-focused therapies that focus on goals rather than past trauma.
Psychoeducation courses cover an array of relevant topics like nutrition, sleep, relapse prevention, eating disorders and addiction. There is also a specialized LGBTQ+ track. Residents also participate in regular in-house 12-step meetings as well as those in the local community.
The Renascent team is comprised of therapists, clinical psychologists, physicians, addiction specialists and medical director. Medication management and medical services are available for clients in need of dual diagnosis support.
Extras
Holistic approaches include mindfulness meditation, yoga practice, art and music therapy.
Renascent hosts a family program that includes parent coaching, workshops and therapy sessions to educate about addiction, open lines of communication and nurture growth. The facility also offers a specialized curriculum for the workplace.
In Summary
A pillar of the Toronto community for nearly 50 years, Renascent is a non-profit treatment organization with four locations for men and women struggling with an array of substance use disorders. With a comprehensive, integrative curriculum, upscale accommodations and a veteran, compassionate team, the facility provides a life-changing treatment experience. Renascent is an excellent option for anyone looking for a sustainable recovery.
