Millcreek of Pontotoc Residential Review

Millcreek of Pontotoc is a part of the Acadia network of care, which maintains treatment centers throughout the US. Located in Pontotoc, Mississippi, the Millcreek facility offers adolescents and young adults a number of therapeutic treatment services. These include group homes, a day program school ,and a residential track.

The residential program caters to clients between the ages of six and 20. Throughout treatment, participants can expect age-appropriate programming options and evidence-based methods. In addition to treating a number of behavioral and mental health concerns, there is also programming for co-occurring issues such as a dual diagnosis of substance use disorder.

Accommodations and Food

The clients in the residential program are divided into groups that reside in three cottages on campus. Two of the cottages are gender-specific, and one houses older girls and younger boys. The facilities are called Magnolia, Grapevine and Daltwood. The living arrangements are determined not only by age and gender, but also by presenting concerns and developmental abilities. In total, there are 51 beds.

The sprawling campus has common areas both inside and out. Clients have access to the recreational areas, along with the on-site private school. It’s worth mentioning, the grounds are wooded and park-like. As a result, residents have access to a number of walking paths.

Clients eat three meals a day in the dining hall. A professional kitchen staff prepares all the food. There is also a nutritionist on site who designs the menus. Snacks are readily available.

Treatment and Staff

On average clients remain in the residential program for about six months. Clients attend at least one hour long individual therapy session every week. During these meetings clients discuss their progress or any concerns they may face during treatment. This is also the time that clients work on their aftercare plans. More than one individual therapy session is available upon request.

Five times a week clients go to group therapy. Each of the hour long sessions tackle a common issue that clients face. This includes bullying, peer pressure, self esteem, boundaries, aggression and anger management, handling emotions, goal setting.

There are a number of experiential therapies including play therapy, music and art therapy, and daily recreational therapies. Treatment uses CBT-based approaches and trauma-informed care protocols. Medication management is also available for those who need it. The clients’ clinical teams include a psychiatrist who monitors their progress on medications.

For younger clients, there are daily educational classes at the campus based private school. There are about five hours per day of class, and clients receive personalized attention due to the small teacher-to-student ratio.

Extras

There are two family therapy sessions per month that last for about 60 minutes each.

In Summary

The residential treatment track at Millcreek of Pontotoc offers a number of different options that accommodate each client’s age group and needs. During their time in treatment clients learn a number of coping and life skills that contribute to their long term success during and after their program.
