Millcreek of Pontotoc Review

Acadia’s Millcreek of Pontotoc is an adolescent and young adult treatment facility situated in Northern Mississippi. The programming includes psychiatric residential treatment, a therapeutic day school and group homes. Millcreek of Pontotoc handles clients between the ages of six and 20 who are struggling with a multitude of mental health issues, including chronic depression, anxiety disorders or a dual diagnosis.Treatment is entirely individualized and requires referrals from accredited care facilities in order to qualify.

Accommodations and Food

The residential program has 51 beds spread out on the main campus in three cottages. The group homes have a total of 18 beds split between two residences within the community.

Clients are provided with the essentials during their stay in treatment. There are laundry facilities in both the inpatient program and group homes, and toiletries and school supplies are given to each client.

Meals are eaten in the campus cafeteria. For inpatient clients, there are a few options offered per meal time. Group home clients are on campus for a majority of meals. There are also snacks set out during the day.

Treatment and Staff

The admissions process requires that clients meet the basic criteria in order to receive treatment. Every client in the program must have a primary psychiatric disorder that was diagnosed, along with a referral to participate in this program. Every possible participant must be enrolled in school or be eligible to earn their GED.

Treatment is customized on every level to accommodate each of the client’s needs. Clients can expect a combination of different evidence-based approaches and therapies. Upon admission, clients work on their aftercare plan with their primary therapies and coordinate treatment with clients families to ensure wraparound services.

Typically, clients attend individual therapy at least twice a month, and several group sessions throughout the week. The multidisciplinary team meets once a month to discuss each client’s progress and assess their changing needs. Medication management is available during every stage of treatment if needed.

Treatment approaches include CBT, recreational therapy, music and art therapy and experiential modalities. There is also continued education at the therapeutic day school that boasts a small teacher-to-student ratio.

The clinical staff of the Pontotoc facility includes psychiatrists, LPCs, LPNs medical doctors, LCSWs, and accredited teachers.

Extras

Millcreek of Pontotoc works with The Jason Foundation, which is a non-profit that provides educational services for young people and adults with the intent to prevent adolescent and young adult suicide.

There are regular family therapy sessions scheduled throughout each client’s treatment.
