Millcreek of Pontotoc Group Home Review

Acadia’s Millcreek of Pontotoc is a treatment facility that caters to adolescents and young adults struggling with behavioral issues, mental health concerns and co-occurring disorders. One of the programs offered at this location includes a therapeutic group home track. The group homes offer treatment for both young men and women between the ages of 12 and 20. While in this level of care, clients receive individualized treatment that includes individual and group therapy, and continued education.

Accommodations and Food

There are four residences associated with the group home program. All of the facilities are gender-specific and divided by age and behavioral issues. These homes offer housing for up to 10 male clients and eight females.

The facilities are comfortable and home-like, with shared bedrooms and bathrooms that clients are responsible for keeping clean and tidy. There are common areas within each of the homes and outdoor space.

The meals are served on campus during the day, and clients eat food that is prepared by kitchen staff. The menus are put together by a staff nutritionist.

Treatment and Staff

There are individual sessions held once a week at the home where the client lives. These sessions are typically about 30 minutes long. There are additional sessions available if it is needed. There are also two group therapy sessions on site per week. These groups last about an hour in length.

Clients in the group home program are able to attend public school, if applicable, or attend the private school that is on the treatment campus, or one in the area.

The group home program often resembles Millcreek’s day school track, though it is a bit more intensive with its programming.

Group sessions address common issues, like anger management, healthy boundaries, communication, and coping with emotions. Programming approaches include CBT, DBT and trauma-informed protocols. There are also a number of gender-specific issues addressed regularly. Medication management is provided when necessary.

The staff includes medical doctors and nurses, psychologists, LPCs, LCSWs and teachers.

Extras

Family therapy sessions take place once a month with the family members and clients. In addition, families are contacted every week by the clients assigned therapist or LCSW to keep them updated on their loved ones progress.

In Summary

The group home program at Millcreek of Pontotoc is ideal for clients who need an extra level of support while learning life and coping skills, and continuing their education. These programs take into account each client’s specific needs and designs treatment plans that cater to those needs. While in the program clients have the opportunity to branch out a bit and put their new coping skills to the test while still lignin a controlled environment.
