Located 50 miles north of Boston in the city of Manchester, New Hampshire, Queen City Sober Living offers abstinence-based transitional living at two locations for men in the early stages of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. One of several Granite Recovery Centers locations, it not only provides a stable and safe environment but also a client-empowerment model of care that focuses on personal development and responsibility. The 12-step recovery model is a major aspect of the program and is incorporated into daily routine.
Accommodations and Amenities
The homes are located in the middle of Manchester, within walking distance to plenty of shopping, restaurants and cafes. The houses, a renovated former mill, offer some amenities including a spacious common rooms with comfortable couches and a flat screen TV. There are five bedrooms equipped with two full-sized beds, dressers, cabinet space and art on the walls.
Rules and Regulations
In order to stay, residents are required to participate in weekly meetings that focus on in-house issues and peer feedback. Clients must engage in regular 12-step meetings, have a sponsor and volunteer in the community. Also, the facility requires residents to become employment within the first month of their stay. Residents also must perform daily chores and pass regular drug tests. The facility prohibits sexual activity, violence and substance use. A nightly curfew is also enforced.
Basically, this program shows clients how to live a satisfying sober life. Not only are there services and opportunities but also follow-through. The men work through an accountability program that includes frequent status updates and check-in’s with staff and peers. The facility prepares men for their new life with a range of life and career skills training. In addition, residents participate in a mindfulness meditation practice and yoga training.
