The Basics
At 180 Degrees, Inc., adults struggling with chemical dependency are invited to start taking the steps necessary to change their lives. Treatment is offered in a large residential hacienda located on the central-eastern coast of the Cebu Island in the Philippines. Clients are provided with various levels of care including inpatient programs, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and aftercare services. All programs are rooted in the 12-step principles and utilize CBT in group, individual and family therapy sessions.
Situated in the urban city of Mandaue, clients who are tourists to the area may enjoy the various points of interest nearby including monkey caves, the Cabancalan-Bonilad Sinkholes, Jagobiao Spring and the National Shrine of St. Joseph in addition to museums, parks and other historical destinations.
Accommodations and Food
The 180 Degrees facility is a two-story, fenced-in facility situated in a secluded neighborhood surrounded by lush palm trees. Residents live in gender-specific dormitory-style rooms with bunk beds. There are three bedrooms for men that accommodate up to 12 clients at a time and one bedroom for women sleeping six. All bedrooms are minimally furnished with dressers, lamps and a desk. Each is also air-conditioned and comes with an attached bathroom with a shower, sink and toilet. There is also a spacious living room equipped with a wide-screen TV and plenty of seating.
Residents have use of an on-site gym and can enjoy organized games and recreation on the spacious grounds surrounding the home. The gym includes various exercise equipment—a treadmill, punching bags and stationary bikes. Blocks of time are set aside each day for residents to engage in physical activity.
There is a large dining room where clients eat meals prepared by the on-site chef. The chef prepares three hot meals a day and can accommodate dietary restrictions and requests. Meals consist of a variety of Eastern and Western dishes that tend to be protein-rich. There is also a pantry with drinks and snacks available to residents throughout the day.
Treatment and Staff
Upon arrival, each client is assessed to determine a proper level of care. Residents are then assigned a primary therapist who develops individualized treatment plans to address their specific needs. Each client meets with his or her primary therapist for individual sessions at least once a week. Family members are invited to participate in therapy sessions as needed.
180 Degrees offers a six-month inpatient program that consists of group therapy sessions, 12-step meetings, educational videos and lectures. While treatment plans vary, some group topics include journaling, mindfulness, anger management, relapse prevention, addiction education, psychodrama and core processing. The 12-step groups are held on site by alumni who have at least a year or more of sobriety. The facility also likes to mix in experiential group therapy sessions with activities including blind-folding and scavenger hunts to build trust and camaraderie.
The primary program runs Monday through Friday. Residents begin their day at 6:30 am and engage in structured treatment until curfew at 10 pm. Weekends are slightly less structured with clients allowed free time to watch movies and socialize.
180 Degrees also offers a 90-day IOP that meets five days a week for two hours at a time. During treatment, clients may transition to four then three sessions a week as they progress through their unique plans.
The staff consists of three case managers, a nurse, an MD of holistic medicine, a certified psychologist and a psychotherapist with specialties in addiction.
Extras
An aftercare program is offered to all clients who have completed the inpatient or outpatient program at 180 Degrees. The program focuses on providing relapse prevention groups once a week for an hour at a time. These services are available at no extra charge for a minimum of 18 months.
This facility also offers a family program that takes place every other weekend. The program offers educational lectures on the disease of addiction and support and skill building exercises.
In Summary
At 180 Degrees, Inc. clients are offered 12-step and traditional therapeutic inpatient and outpatient programs for recovery from addiction. Though the inpatient facility is not as luxurious as other treatment facilities, the peaceful and natural surroundings create a pleasant environment conducive to healing. For those seeking structured inpatient care with qualified therapists.
