Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital Dual Diagnosis Review
Erlanger Behavioral Health Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee is a treatment facility that offers a variety of mental health and dual diagnosis treatment services for all ages. The dual diagnosis treatment offers both a detox and residential program for adults. In addition to the medical services, there are evidence-based therapies that take place in an individual and group setting. Clients live in a safe and structured environment while participating in a series of therapeutic activities.
Accommodations and Food
The dual diagnosis clients’ living quarters house up to 22 people in double occupancy bedrooms. The facility’s campus has a large gymnasium and outdoor basketball court clients have access to several times per week.
The on-site kitchen staff prepares the three daily meals. Clients dine in the cafeteria. The food is freshly made and the menus are designed by the staff dietitian.
Treatment and Staff
As with every level of care offered at Erlanger, clients have individualized treatment plans that focus on personal goals. The plan is implemented after a thorough assessment process. If needed, medical detox is provided. The detox treatment uses medication to ease the withdrawal. Once completed, clients move into the residential phase of their program.
At the onset of treatment clients in this track meet with a psychiatrist to discuss medication management. These medications are used to help with mental health disorders, such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD and many more they may be struggling with in conjunction to their addiction.
Individual therapy sessions are available for clients when they need them. There are also several group therapy options every day. Depending on the clients’ needs, these groups may consist of psychoeducation, recovery topics, community groups, process groups and more. The program for dual diagnosis clients fold in 12-step principles, though this track is not entirely based on those philosophies.
Group topics include relapse prevention, anger management, self care, coping skills, suicide prevention, communication and independent living. Typically, therapeutic approaches include CBT, DBT, EMDR, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and mindfulness.
This level is provided by a multidisciplinary team of experts. They are LPC, LCSW, psychiatrists, nurses, case managers and behavioral techs.
Extras
Throughout treatment dual diagnosis clients work on their aftercare plan. This may entail continuing on to the step-down treatment programs offered at the hospital. There are outpatient tracks at the facility including a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) available. Co-occurring disorder clients also are presented with local 12-step support communities in their areas.
Family therapy is available upon request.
In Summary
The dual diagnosis program at Erlanger is overseen by caring professionals who offer their compassion and experience to their clients. The goal is to empower clients to live their best lives after leaving treatment. The staff establishes a strong foundation in recovery, and clients have access to the staff after they return to their communities.
