Acadia Youth Care Treatment Center Residential Review
Located 20 miles south of Salt Lake City, Utah in the city of Draper, Youth Care Treatment Center is a residential treatment facility that specializes in the care of adolescents between the ages of 11 and 18 struggling with mental health conditions like trauma, OCD and anxiety as well as learning disorders and co-occurring substance use disorders. Youth Care is part of the Joint Commission and CARF-accredited Acadia Healthcare organization. The facility offers a multifaceted care model that integrates a comprehensive academic curriculum with an array of therapeutic methods.
Accommodations and Food
Youth Care is situated on a beautiful campus in northern Utah. With stunning mountain views, clean air and an array of recreational activities, the facility offers residents a haven far removed from the distractions of regular life. Residents stay in upscale homes that accommodate between 15 and 16 clients, and share bedrooms equipped with full-sized beds, plenty of storage and an ensuite bathroom. Clients enjoy indoor and outdoor basketball courts, a sand volleyball court, gardens, fire pits, gazebos and indoor rock climbing. Youth Care places a premium on accountability and life skills. To this end, residents are responsible for morning and evening chores.
Youth Care offers a delicious and nutritious menu with plenty of options for individuals with dietary restrictions and preferences.
Treatment and Staff
Youth Care does not believe in the “one size fits all” philosophy of care. Instead, the facility offers personalized care plans. Before beginning treatment, clients undergo a comprehensive intake assessment that includes a medical and psychological exam as well as a history of substance use. In addition, a teacher assesses the academic needs of the client. From these results an individualized treatment strategy is customized to address the unique needs and goals of the person. While the length of residential care varies from person to person, residents typically stay between four and six months. Upon completion of the residential program, many individuals transition into PHP.
The facility seeks to not only treat students but also to prepare and empower them. Youth Care provides an integrative care model that includes evidence-based therapies, recreation, community service, holistic practices and psychiatric services. Three times a week clients participate in individual therapy sessions rooted in DBT, CBT and EMDR to treat trauma. Group therapy sessions are held daily and process groups several times a week. Twelve-step support meetings are available for residents struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders.
The Youth Care team is comprised of teachers, physicians, specialists, mental health counselors, psychologists, therapists and tutors. Dual diagnosis support is available in the form of medication management.
Extras
The facility also offers art and music therapy as well as mindfulness meditation and yoga.
Youth Care understands the powerful impact that family involvement plays in the success of a sustainable recovery. As such, the facility offers weekly family therapy sessions and parent visitation. Residents also write letters home.
In Summary
Youth Care Treatment Center is a treatment facility that integrates recreational, experiential and evidence-based therapies with an academic curriculum for adolescents struggling with mental illnesses and substance use disorders. Located in Draper, Utah, the facility provides residents with a warm and supportive environment and a challenging program that strengthens character and resolve. For anyone seeking a facility that offers not only treatment but a path to a better, sober lifestyle, Acadia’s Youth Care is an excellent option.
