Dragonfly Transitions The Homestead Review
Dragonfly Transitions is a treatment organization in Southern Oregon that specializes in the care of young adults struggling with a range of conditions including substance use and eating disorders, learning disorders and process addictions like technology. The Joint Commission-accredited facility offers several levels of care and locations across the region. The Homestead is a male-only facility that integrates an array of therapeutic methods with farming. Residents in need of dual diagnosis support are treated with medication management. Twelve-step and recovery support groups are available for individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders.
Accommodations and Food
The Homestead is situated on 30 acres of farmland outside of the small city of Klamath Falls. With accommodations for eight men, the facility provides both a tight-knit community of peers and the privacy needed to focus on recovery.
Since the Homeland is a working farm, and residents are responsible for performing daily tasks such as gardening, general maintenance of the property. Residents have an opportunity to sell produce at the farmer’s market and work with horses, sheep and pigs.
The menu is nutritious. Much of their food is grown right on the property, so clients see the value of their own hard work. Food options are available for anyone with dietary restrictions and allergies.
Treatment and Staff
Before entering the program, residents go through an extensive evaluation that includes a psychological and medical assessment, family history and an account of substance use. The client’s family will also be part of the intake process. Based off this information, the Dragonfly team determines the most effective possible care plan customized to meet the unique needs of the person. The team will also decide which campus best fits the client’s needs. The Homestead is an ideal option for clients transitioning out of a residential program back into regular life. Upon completion, many residents transition into another Dragonfly program.
The Homestead provides an empowering model of care that merges a number of therapeutic methods including evidence-based therapies, holistic approaches, mentoring, psychoeducation and experiential activities. Residents participate in group therapy sessions rooted in CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and EMDR to treat trauma as a causal component of current conditions. Clients also have individual therapy and psycho education courses that focus on addiction and relapse prevention. Family therapy is also an integral component of the curriculum.
Dragonfly Transitions employs a multidisciplinary team of therapists, nurses, psychiatrists, student and staff mentors as well as teachers. Medication management and medical services are available for individuals with co-occurring conditions.
Extras
Dragonfly also offers outings that integrate the wilderness, experiential activities and service to the community. Clients participate in a range of different trips that includes a service trip to Cambodia.
In Summary
Dragonfly Transitions is a treatment organization that provides personalized, individualized programming for young adults struggling with eating disorders, substance use disorders and process addictions.
