Acadia Allentown Review
Allentown Comprehensive Treatment Center is a CARF accredited outpatient facility providing Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for adults struggling with opioid addiction. It is part of Acadia’s Southern Eastern Pennsylvania Comprehensive Treatment Centers‘ network. Treatment at this facility includes medications such as Methadone and Suboxone, and individual and group therapy. Caring and experienced specialists facilitate all programming.
Treatment and Staff
Adults who are 18 and older can access the Allentown facility’s services. The assessment process is typically a three to four hour ordeal that includes medical and psychological evaluations. One of the stipulations to receive treatment is that clients come to the facility in the initial stages of withdrawal for at least 20 hours. This rule does not apply to women who are pregnant.
At the conclusion of the intake process clients sit down with medical staff to discuss their treatment plan. In addition to Methadone and Suboxone, the Allentown facility has Vivitrol and Subutex. The dosing schedule varies from client to client, and depends on the medications they are taking. In some cases, clients may switch to a different form of medication.
The facility had medication hours from 6 to 11 am, Monday through Friday, and from 6 to 9 am on Saturdays. Clients typically start on a high dosage of their meds and step down as they start to lose their cravings.
In conjunction with the medication aspect of treatment, there are weekly individual and group therapy. It’s worth mentioning that attendance at these session is mandatory. The sessions address setbacks, successes and any issues clients may be facing. During therapy clients may discuss past instances that may have guided them towards their dependance, such as childhood trauma. One-on-one therapy sessions focus on gaining new perspectives and creating healthy coping skills. Groups tend to zero in on establishing goals, relapse prevention techniques, setting healthy boundaries and receiving and accepting support from a peer group.
The therapeutic interventions use evidence-based approaches. Through treatment is not based in the 12 steps, they do encourage clients in seeking out support within the community through AA/NA meetings.
The program at the Allentown facility consists of addiction counselors, nurses and medical doctors.

Overall, Acadia’s Allentown facility provides the essential tools for men and women to get themselves free of opioids and also establish a strong foundation in recovery. The treatment team aims to uncover what the root of the addiction may be, and from there works towards rebuilding the client’s identity and self worth without drugs. While the path is never easy, the program does show individuals that there can be a happy and successful life outside of opioids.
