Eliada Review
Eliada is an adolescent psychiatric treatment program based out of Asheville, North Carolina. Its history spans 115 years. Therapeutic treatment programs range from an intensive residential program that lasts up to one year, to a structured day program. Additional services include fostering a child and community outreach assistance. Eliada offers a variety of treatment approaches and experiences for children who are struggling with an array of mental health issues, have gone through a significant trauma, or have a dual diagnosis.
Accommodations and Food
Eliada sits on 320 acres of land that used to be a working dairy farm. The campus contains two large barns, extensive hiking trails, several animals and a hydroponic grow dome. There are five cottages on the grounds that serve as the housing units for the clients. The cottages are divided by age and level of care needed. The units accommodate between four and nine clients in each, most of which are separated by gender, with the exception of one house that is co-ed. There is one locked facility and one unlocked where those who need a higher level of care reside.
Everything is provided on campus for the clients. Eliada follows strict nutritional guidelines and offers several healthy choices at meal times.
All daily meals consist of fresh vegetables and fruits, whole grains, low in fat and sugar. Eliada is able to accommodate certain dietary restrictions and specifications. Clients have open access to healthy snacks all day long.
Treatment and Staff
Eliada serves clients between the ages of 12 and 17. Services in this level of care include a psychiatric assessment and diagnosis, medication management, group and individual therapy, psychoeducation, life skills, therapeutic recreation and more. There is also a private school on campus that follows North Carolina’s common core standards. For older clients who are high school age and eligible to graduate may do so while at Eliada.
Other therapy groups and activities presented are developed for clients to work on several behavioral and communication skills. Some of these alternative approaches are weekly equine therapy, animal therapy, adventure therapy, and expressive arts therapy that includes music and art therapy, theater, dance and creative writing. Additional elements to this program includes work development and continued education.
Treatment is based in CBT approaches and includes Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), DBT and play therapy.
There is a large clinical and education staff at Eliada. They consist of LMFTs, RNs, LPCs and LCSWs. There are also experts in child development, lead and assistant teachers and group leaders. Medication management is overseen by staff psychiatrists who offer frequent visits with clients.

They work to prepare their clients for success by giving them valuable tools and addressing their past behaviors. Eliada focuses on the future of their clients and doesn’t just deal with them in the present, but rather helps them develop skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
