Acadia Montana Review
Acadia Montana is a Butte based residential program for adolescents and teens up to the age of 18. Treatment at this facility is for those who are dealing with mental health issues or have a dual diagnosis. In addition to traditional treatment methods, Acadia Montana offers specialized tracks and unique approaches. In conjunction with mental health treatment, clients attend private school on the campus to maintain their academics.
Accommodations and Food
The campus is situated in the Rocky Mountains of Montana and provides 105 beds in total. The 60 acre campus is divided into three units. The units are separated by age and gender. Each of the bedrooms are semi private and furnished with twin beds. Along with bedrooms these facilities have bathrooms with showers, and dining spaces where snacks and beverages are served. The units have an entertainment room with a TV and video games. There is also a space with board games and puzzles.
The grounds have an on-site gym, a couple of playgrounds with climbing structures, and a rock wall.
Clients eat their meals with their unit in the cafeteria. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are prepared and served on site. The meals are balanced nutritionally and menus are designed by a staff dietitian.
Treatment and Staff
On average, clients remain in this program between three and six months. The length of time that a client can expect to stay at Acadia Montana depends on several factors, some of which include what their primary diagnosis is, and how they are progressing through the program.
On any given day clients attend classes, group therapy, and recreational activities. During the school year the clients participate in their appropriate grade level class led by accredited teaching staff. There is at least one individual therapy session scheduled per week. A therapist facilitates groups, which cover topics like anger management, conflict resolution, setting boundaries, and mindfulness. The topics are also often set by the group.
The program is based on CBT approaches. Treatment is phase based, with the older clients going through a four phase program, and the younger going by a behavioral system known as “red light/green light.” Medication management is also a consistent element of treatment at this facility.
Staff at Acadia Montana includes recreational therapists, psychiatric nurses, a consulting psychiatrist, LPC and behavioral health techs.
Extras
Acadia Montana offers specialty groups for select populations of clients. This includes a trauma focused treatment path, Alateen, and Sons and Daughter of Tradition for Native American residents.
Aftercare planning begins on the very first day a client sets foot on campus. Each client is provided with a detailed plan that includes resources in their community for the clients and their families. In addition, family therapy is provided at least once per week either in person or over the phone.
In Summary
The main goal of this program is that the young clients are able to become and remain stable enough to return to their homes and maintain their recovery. Along with the therapy there is a fully accredited private school on campus so there isn’t a fear of falling behind in the clients education. While in treatment clients are encouraged to try new things and learn to have faith in their abilities.
