Old Vineyard Behavioral Health of Winston-Salem, North Carolina is a highly structured mental health facility with inpatient and outpatient services. The adolescent inpatient track includes a series of evidence-based protocols, medication management, recreational therapy and academic instruction. This program targets clients between the ages of 12 and 17 struggling with an array of disorders concerning mood, addiction and dual diagnosis, and trauma recovery.
Accommodations and Food
The adolescent residential facility sits on a campus of over 16 acres. The campus includes living quarters for adult and senior clients in separate areas of the grounds. The younger clients housing units include classrooms in addition to the common areas including a large dining room and enclosed courtyard. The facilities accommodates up to 52 clients in dorm style bedrooms.
The adolescent common space offers a TV room with board games and books. There are also laundry facilities on site.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the dining room, and snacks are set out throughout the day. Sodas are allowed in this program as well. There are a couple of options offered at meal times.
Treatment and Staff
Incoming clientele have an assessment period at the beginning of their recovery journey. Often times younger clients are being admitted due to a mental health crisis in progress. Typically medication is administered for stabilization. Once the client is stable they begin their regular schedule of group therapy and activities. Treatment at this facility is individualized and strengths based.
The adolescent treatment program focuses on emotional regulation, mindfulness, coping skills and relapse prevention. There are workbooks clients complete during their stay, and journaling assignments issued as well.
Treatment uses evidence-based methods, like CBT and DBT. Recreational and play therapy are essential tools used within this program as well. Group therapy is the main method of treatment in the adolescent track, though there are individual therapy sessions and appointments with the staff psychiatrist on a regular basis.
During the school year clients attend classes so they don’t fall behind. There are certified teachers on site, and clients attend age appropriate sessions with state mandated teaching materials.
The staff consists mainly of psychiatrists, nurses, mental health techs and LPCs.
Extras
Family therapy is included in treatment. Aftercare planning is a part of the initial program. This includes community resources information and medication management plans.
Holistic treatment approaches include pet therapy and arts and crafts.
