Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center Outpatient Review
Located in the coastal city of Biloxi, the Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center (MDATC) is a comprehensive treatment program for adult men and women. Treatment at this facility includes a long term residential track and outpatient programs. Clients struggling with addiction or co-occurring disorders receive comprehensive care through the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Programming includes both gender-specific and co-ed group therapy, individual therapy, recreational, 12-step, and holistic approaches.
Treatment and Staff
Clients who are initially interested in procuring treatment from MDATC can get a free consultation prior to their intake assessment. The PHP is the most intensive level of outpatient care. Clients in this program do not necessarily have to be stepping down from the inpatient level at this facility, though it does possess some of the same elements of treatment.
The PHP is an all day program. Typically clients attend group therapy in the first half of the day, take a break for lunch, then continue on with therapeutic activities until the afternoon. The IOP is a nine to 10 hour a week program. This generally requires clients to participate in therapy sessions in the evening three times per week. The IOP is primarily in a group setting, with one individual therapy session per week.
Clients address issues that currently affect them regarding their addiction or dual diagnosis, as well as explore past experiences that may have led to them initially abusing drugs and alcohol. Trauma therapy is integrated into every level of treatment. Clients begin to recognize what their triggers may be and how they can cope with cravings for the future.
Common treatment practices include EMDR and CBT approaches. The therapists at MDATC specialize in a variety of modalities. They offer guidance and ways to cope with issues like grief and loss, family dynamics and ways to avoid relapse. Clients can also expect holistic approaches such as art and music therapy, recreational therapy and hypnotherapy.
Along with therapy, medication management is available for those with co-occurring disorders. They also regularly meet with a psychiatrist.
The staff of MDATC are highly trained and specialize in addiction disorders. Staff includes medical doctors, psychiatric nurses, LCSWs, LPCs and CADCs.
Extras
There is a long term aftercare program for graduates. Aftercare entails clients meeting once a week for group therapy. Finally, the family program at MATC provides counseling services to families and spouses of clients.
In Summary
The Mississippi Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center’s outpatient programs are as thorough and caring as their inpatient track. Clients receive constant support from a staff that is on hand 24 hours a day. Individuals end up leaving this program armed with healthy coping mechanisms and a foundation in recovery.
