Lynwood House Review
Lynwood House was established in 2016 by owner Alex Cole in Jackson, Mississippi. It’s a sober living home for men that operates using the principles of AA/NA. Above all, Lynwood House strives to provide a safe and structured home that teaches residents how to apply 12-step into everyday life. In addition to simply living in a sober environment, clients also participate in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). During their time at Lynwood House clients learn practical and essential life skills and commit to their recovery, especially during the crucial early stages.
Accommodations and Amenities
The sober living house is fully furnished and close to several shops, local restaurants and grocery stores, including a Whole Foods in the heart of the arts district. It’s worth mentioning, there is also easy access to several community AA meetings.
The one-story, fully furnished facility offers shared bedrooms, a living room U-Verse TV, and high speed internet throughout. Lynwood House supplies all paper and cleaning products, and there is a washer and dryer on site.
Rules and Regulations
There are three main guidelines applied during Lynwood House’s program—spirituality, community and self. There are 12 spiritual laws that clients follow that pertain to a Higher Power, along with the teachings of the Big Book. Once in the program, clients begin to formulate a plan of action that incorporates these three principles, with the intent to accomplish their goals through their commitment to the 12 steps.
Lynwood House has what it refers to as an “accountability program.” This takes the continuing care plans that were customized for the clients while in a previous long term care program and assists them in achieving those goals. This can include helping to land the right job, go back to school, or simply reestablish some broken relationships.
There are weekly drug screenings, and in house AA and NA meetings. Finally, clients have to communicate frequently with their sponsor, and initially have their meetings signed off on.
In Summary
Clients in Lynwood House have the unique opportunity to learn more about themselves during their stint in the program through the guidance of the staff. They learn how to operate as a community rather than just an individual who is new to recovery. Consequently, they form a like minded group of people all working to keep each other on the straight and narrow. Residents here learn how to have fun in recovery, look outside of themselves, and avoid relapse while in the safety of a supportive environment.
