Holy Cross Services Review

Holy Cross Services is a non-profit organization that provides a range of therapeutic and community services for persons in need. Founded in 1948, Holy Cross Services operates three residential treatment facilities. They specialize in the care of women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. The CARF-accredited facility endorses a client-centered model of care that seeks to heal the underlying root causes of conditions as well as the symptoms. Further, the women’s facility incorporates child care and case management services into the treatment curriculum. The 12-step recovery model is also an integral aspect to care, as is medication management for persons in need of dual diagnosis support.

Accommodations and Food

Holy Cross Services offers three women’s residential facilities located in Saginaw, Mount Morris and Lansing. Each facility provides a supportive and nurturing atmosphere ideal for individuals in recovery. The facilities are situated in large building with comfortable, spacious accommodations. Residents share a bedroom with a peer and enjoy recreation and common areas on campus. The facility offers a nutritious menu with options available for clients with dietary restrictions and allergies.

Treatment and Staff

Holy Cross Services treats the “whole person” rather than simply treating their conditions. As such, the facility provides individualized treatment plans customized to meet the specific needs, goals and circumstances of the person. Before beginning treatment, women undergo a comprehensive intake assessment that includes a personal and family medical history, a complete overview of substance use as well as an account of mental health. The team utilizes these results to determine the best possible care plan.

When necessary, individuals enter the detox program. Holy Cross offers a medical detox phase that includes around-the-clock supervision and withdrawal medication. Upon completion, clients transition into the residential phase. Residential care lasts as long as necessary and completely depends on the client’s needs. Stays can last between three weeks and three months.

The facility provides an integrative approach to care that includes a range of therapies and services. Clients engage in three-hour group sessions every day in addition to a weekly individual session. Therapists are trained in both traditional talk therapy as well as evidence-based Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT.

Holy Cross also offers two hour gender-specific therapy groups that focus on relevant issues such as anger management, relapse prevention techniques, unhealthy relationships as well as sexual and physical abuse. In addition, residents attend regular 12-step recovery meetings and work to design the most effective continued support plan to help their transition back into regular life. Tutoring and job skills development are often an integral component in the plan.

Holy Cross Services is made up of a team of therapists, case managers, nurses, recovery coaches, addiction specialists, physicians and psychiatrists. Residents in need receive psychiatric and medical care, that includes both dental and vision services. Medication management is also available.

Extras

The team at Holy Cross believes in the importance of family involvement when it comes to the success of a sustainable long-term recovery. As such, the facility provides family therapy every week to help strengthen understanding and the bond between mother and child.

Holy Cross Services understands the hardship that mothers face in treatment. As such, the specialty designed programming provides extra services for pregnant women and mothers. The facility offers an array of services for children such as immunizations, child care and transportation.

In Summary

Holy Cross Services is a world-class non-profit organization that helps thousands each year in the state of Michigan. The three women’s residential facilities offer supportive environments for recovery and well-rounded treatment programs that are customized to address the individual’s unique needs. With the addition of specialty child care, Holy Cross provides a host of excellent resources as well as a haven for women that need a second chance. For anyone seeking that second chance, Holy Cross is a great option.
