The Basics
Yucca Lodge is an inpatient substance abuse facility operating as an extension of services offered by Fort Bayard Medical Center. Located in Santa Clara, New Mexico, Yucca Lodge was founded in 1997 through the New Mexico Department of Health. The clientele are New Mexico residents diagnosed with a range of behavioral health problems including substance abuse, personality disorders, diabetes, heart problems, cerebral vascular disease and pulmonary disease.
Yucca Lodge treats men and women 18 and older who are suffering from addiction and co-occurring disorders. Clients are encouraged to stay a minimum of four to six weeks, but can stay longer based on need.
Accommodations and Food
Yucca Lodge is located on the Fort Bayard Medical Center campus and is adjacent to the beautiful Gila National Forest. While accommodations are more or less clinical, the secluded setting is an asset for those looking for privacy and proximity to nature where they can deeply reflect on their addiction and recovery.
The facility can accommodate 18 individuals in dual-occupancy, gender-specific bedrooms. Quarters are simply decorated and comfortable. Smoking, personal computers, cell phones and snacks are all permitted during designated times. Soda is sold from a vending machine on the premise.
Three meals a day are served at the Lodge, all made by a chef who prepares “home-style cooking.” If a client has strict dietary restrictions, meals are prepared to meet those specifications.
Treatment and Staff
The Yucca Lodge program focuses on community and recovery. Treatment begins with an intake session that includes physical and clinical exam. Staff develops an individualized treatment plan that ensures each resident receives an appropriate combination of individual therapy, group counseling and the 12-step program. Exact schedules vary from person to person. Medical detox is available at nearby Turqoise Lodge Hospital that includes medication management.
Yucca Lodge staff is a team of substance abuse counselors, registered nurses and psychiatric technicians. There is also access to Fort Bayard Medical Center physicians, psychiatrists and the pharmacy. All clinicians use CBT for treatment.
Extras
A separate relapse prevention program is offered wherein individual counselors meet with clients to plan the best aftercare route for each client. Continued individual therapy and 12-step meetings are recommended.
In Summary
The substance abuse recovery program provided by Yucca Lodge at Fort Bayard Medical Center empowers clients to reclaim their lives and accept responsibility for their actions in a safe and structured environment. The facility aims to be a community leader in the fields of wellness and quality of life, helping clients to become functioning members of the New Mexico community at large.
