Sound Recovery Review
Just outside of Olympia, in Lacey, Washington, Royal Life Centers At Sound Recovery is a comprehensive outpatient facility. Its services are for clients who have completed the detox and inpatient treatment. Outpatient treatment includes a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). Clients have group and individual therapy, along with a variety of experiential and holistic activities and therapeutic experiences. Treatment includes 12-step support, evidence-based therapies and dual diagnosis care. Above all, Royal Life Centers at Sound Recovery operates all aspects of programming under the motto “Because we care.”
Treatment and Staff
At the beginning of the outpatient experience, clients have an individualized treatment plan that works on their personal goals. They work on identifying triggers, strengthening relationships, managing stress and improving communication approaches.
The highest level of care, and usually the first level of treatment in the outpatient program, is the PHP. Consequently, clients attend treatment six hours per day, six days a week for the first three weeks. This is a very structured program that mainly consists of group sessions and activities.
Then participants step down to IOP. This is broken down into two stages. The first part of the IOP is a five day a week program of three hour group sessions. The next half goes to three treatment days per week of three hour sessions.
The second half of the IOP clients begin to have weekly, hour long individual sessions. In addition, they attend job readiness groups and start to learn new life and coping skills, because this program places an emphasis on learning how to thrive in the real world. At the end of the nine week outpatient program, clients only see their therapist once a week for individual therapy.
Therapy is primarily CBT and there are community AA meetings.
Staff at the outpatient facility include medical doctors, nurses, LCSWs and LPCs.
Extras
Clients can expect plenty of activity and adventure therapy. Examples include art therapy, music therapy, movement therapy, equine therapy, kayaking and a ropes course.
Finally, there is a sober living option for clients going through the outpatient track.
In Summary
The CARF accredited outpatient program at Royal Life Centers at Sound Recovery is an excellent resource for the Greater Olympia area. The step-down nature of the program allows for clients to learn how to be sober and put their new skills to use within the community. As a result, clients who go through this process leave with a renewed sense of self. Perhaps most importantly, they also develop an arsenal of skills that help them maintain their sobriety once they are outside the confines of formalized care.
