Ktizo Sober Living House Review
Ktizo Sober Living is a transitional housing program in Phoenix, Arizona. It is a part of the United Church of Christ denomination, and provides safe housing for women in recovery. The program is based on the 12 steps and offers clients a supportive home that aids in their transition out of a treatment program. The mission of Ktizo Sober Living is to give women a positive environment while they are getting ready to return to their communities. Above all, Ktizo is a faith based program that sets out to support those in need through donations and outreach efforts.
Accommodations and Amenities
The one story sober living house is in Southwest Phoenix and sleeps nine clients and one full time house manager. The house is private and in a quiet residential neighborhood. The single family home has a living room, kitchen with two fridges, and ice box, dining room and backyard space. Almost all the furnishings inside the facility were generously donated. However, new items include all beds and bedding.
The bedrooms are simple, with twin beds, a dresser and some closet space. There are also two full bathrooms that are shared with the house. Clients are responsible for keeping the house and grounds clean.
Clients cook for each other from food that is donated to the program. Once clients are working on a consistent basis they can begin to contribute to the meals for the house.
Rules and Regulations
Ktizo Sober Living accepts adult women who have been sober for at least 90 days. Attending regular AA meetings is mandatory, and having the meetings signed off on initially is also required. Clients get a sponsor right away and are in communication with them often.
Within a couple of weeks of moving in the clients are working and contributing. There are several common sense rules in the house that the women follow. The main one is remaining sober and keeping themselves accountable. Smoking is not allowed inside the house, but there are designated areas outside where smoking is permitted.
There are regular chores that clients complete on a daily and weekly basis. There are also events held at the church the women participate in.
Ktizo works closely with the Arizona Recovery Housing Association and has found house managers and other staff members through their referrals. All staff are sober and have gone through a similar program.
In Summary
Ktizo mission is truly heartfelt. Due to the lack of safe, nurturing recovery houses for women in the area, it stepped up and provided one. Clients live as a supportive community, and take care of themselves while being a support system to each other. This program is possible thanks to the kindness of people’s hearts, and a very noble intention.
