Higher Plane Recovery Review
Higher Plane Recovery is a sober living facility located in the University Hills area of Austin, Texas. It provides upscale transitional accommodations for men in the beginning stages of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. Two veterans of the recovery process, David Crawford and Ozzie Garcia, founded Higher Plane Recovery in 2018. In starting Higher Plane, Crawford and Garcia seized an opportunity to help others through the powerful 12-step method. It’s also worth mentioning, the facility incorporates a meditation practice, etiquette classes and employment assistance.
Accommodations and Amenities
Higher Plane aims to have an atmosphere that fosters a long-term, sustainable recovery. With accommodations for only 11 residents, the facility provides a tight-knit community of peers as well as the privacy necessary for beginning the recovery journey.
Clients live in a beautiful five bedroom room complete with an industrial kitchen, living room and a large backyard. The four bedrooms each have two twin-sized beds, a sizable closet, nice furnishings and plenty of natural light. The master bedroom is fit for three residents. The home offers plenty of amenities including a billiards table, a flat screen TV and a large washer and dryer unit. Perhaps most noteworthy, the residence offers around-the-clock supervision through a live-in house manager.
Rules and Regulations
The facility seeks to instill new, positive habits to replace past behavior patterns. A strong work ethic, self-respect and a commitment to community are all key components to a fulfilling sober life. Higher Plane believes in responsibility and accountability. Consequently, residents gain more freedom the longer they are at the facility.
For the first month, clients must obtain a sponsor, attend five 12-step meetings a week and spend a significant amount of time involved in a neighborhood service project. As clients progress through the program, they can earn passes to leave the facility but must still participate in home meetings. Residents must keep their area tidy and perform daily chores for the household. They have to seek employment immediately upon move-in and have a job within the first two weeks.
Higher Plane immediately discharges residents if they commit theft, are physically or verbally violent, break a curfew, destroy property, or fail a drug test. While male visitors are allowed during designated hours, the facility doesn’t permit female guests. There are designated smoking areas. Finally, Higher Plane requests a two-week notice before residents plan on leaving.
