Milwaukee WisconsinThe Basics

In addition to The AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin offering the largest HIV healthcare system in Wisconsin, additional medical and behavioral health services are available from 10 different clinics across the state of Wisconsin. With a wide range of community resources and a statewide network of medical and mental health professionals, ARCW also offers a substance abuse treatment program called the Alcohol and Other Drug program (AODA), which provides outpatient recovery care.

Treatment and Staff

The AODA program is exclusively for clients with HIV or AIDS and is led by a staff credentialed to treat the co-occurring diseases of addiction and HIV/AIDS. The AODA program offers both individual and group counseling. The client schedules individual counseling with a staff member who then manages their case and determines how often they should meet.

The outpatient program is based on an individualized treatment plan tailored to each client’s specific needs. Clients are typically scheduled for at least one individual session per week and are required to attend at least three two-hour group sessions per week with clinicians utilizing CBT for treatment. Family therapy is also available and is scheduled separately. The AODA program does not integrate the 12-steps into treatment.

Staff consists of LCSWs, LPCs, MFTs, CSACs and medical doctors.

Extras

Services offered through ARCW’s behavioral health department also include depression screening, psychiatric evaluations, mental health assessments, art therapy, mindful yoga classes and smoking cessation training.

In Summary

The AODA program at ARCW for clients suffering from HIV or AIDS offers comprehensive treatment with a staff that is specifically trained to provide care for these individuals and their unique needs. With both individual and group therapy, ARCW’s evidence based treatment and caring professionals help clients reach their recovery goals and maintain long-term mental and physical health.
