WHOS Najara Review
Najara is a residential treatment facility located in the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Part of the We Help Ourselves (WHOS) organization, Najara specializes in the care of men and women struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. The facility offers comprehensive, individualized treatment programming and the therapeutic community model to heal the underlying causes of conditions. While the 12-step recovery model is not a component of care, the facility does focus on relapse prevention, psychoeducation and case management. It’s also worth noting, dual diagnosis support is available for residents with co-occurring conditions.
Accommodations and Food
WHOS Najara provides a safe, supportive and serene environment so residents can focus on their recovery journey. The facility offers accommodations for 26 men and women.
Clients enjoy socializing in common rooms, and playing games such as ping pong, volleyball and billiards. As a therapeutic community, residents are responsible for the day-to-day operation of the facility.
Clients prepare meals together. The menu is nutritious and includes options for individuals with dietary restrictions and allergies.
Treatment and Staff
Clients must first speak with a team member on the phone. The consultation determines eligibility, while at the same time provides clients a general understanding of the program. If the intake team deems the person eligible, he or she undergoes a comprehensive intake assessment. It includes a personal medical history and an account of substance use. Then they design a tailored treatment strategy based off of the assessment results.
Residents must be sober before entering WHOS Najara. When necessary, the facility refers clients to a local detox program. The length of the residential program varies depending on the unique needs of the client. Typically clients’ treatment at WHOS Najara lasts between four and six months.
WHOS Najara seeks to heal clients physically, mentally and socially. As a result, the therapeutic community model not only teaches clients the consequences of their behaviors but also empowers them. Residents learn that they can overcome obstacles and achieve goals in life. The longer a client stays at Najara, the more responsibility and freedom they attain. Psychoeducation classes focus on the disease of addiction and relapse prevention techniques. Clients also learn an array of job and life skills like stress management, communication, conflict resolution and computer skills. Finally, residents also engage in mindfulness meditation and yoga sessions.
WHOS Najara employs a team of addiction specialists and a veteran nursing team.
Extras
The treatment team here believes in the importance of physical fitness and sober fun to the success of a sustainable recovery. Consequently, residents go on bush walks, and enjoy karaoke and trivia nights.
The facility provides transitional accommodations for individuals that have completed the residential program.
In Summary
Above all, participants in the program at WHOS Najara can expect residential care in a mixed-gender therapeutic community. It supports residents struggling with alcohol and substance use disorders. Particularly effective for individuals from the region, Najara seeks to heal the “whole person” rather that simply treating symptoms. Clients learn relapse prevention techniques, social and life skills, all while participating in group skills and feedback sessions with experienced addiction specialists. For local clients seeking a unique and empowering treatment experience, Najara is a strong option.
